7? You only need enough chain for 1/2 the weight of the coil. So that's 4 chains. (3/8 G70 is rated for 6600#) you can have as many as you want but your only required to have 4.
Another problem you'd have is finding places that would load a dump. I don't think any AK Steel will and I know Worthington Steel in Columbus OH won't anymore. Not sure why there used to be a guy that hauled grain one way and coils back but the guard said for some reason they won't do it anymore they won't even load a drop deck.
This is most likely a little big (not to mention heavy) for what your wanting to do but it was set up for coils. 19pr of chain ties and an enclosed cabinet in the front for storing lumber/racks/chains. -
you dont need no stinkin chains, i hauled coils with a dry van with no securement before.
lol, different size coil.

jfaulk i wasnt trying to be smart, it is true what you say but some of the hills i ran a couple of extra didnt hurt for peace of mind, but i still would like to see some pic on how it would be applyed, if its aluminum dump bed how do they reenforce the bed so the chains dont rip out>>>>

Almost all dumps have crossmembers just like a regular flat and the tie downs are welded to it.
Frameless dumps aren't the best for hauling big coils but can haul some smaller ones, 40k and under.dino6960 Thanks this. -
Oh I wasn't trying to be mean, hard to tell through typing. I agree with the peace of mind but I watched a guy last week put 8 chains on a 40k coil, not a big deal except I had to wait on him.

I did see a frameless with chain ties, however it was a spread which would help a lot with strength. Would be fun to dump a coil out if you got tired of waiting!
slowpoke69 Thanks this. -
CRST driver?...

Stenger was doing it for a while but it was wearing out something on the frameless trailers. You could also see them sag, didn't think I'd ever see a bucket sag...

Check the Ravens web site they usually have trailers for sale with chain tie downs in them see alot of Mac and east with the tie downs also, hauled coils for mac steel out of NH and unloaded with a bunch of dump trailers that came out of OH daily and hauled demo back just chain tie downs like on a flatbed some also have coil racks built in most of the one's i unloaded with were frameless.

Hey do you think you could haul them in a 1/2 round dump and it would just be like a coil trailer?

I don't think I'd want to be around when they tried that...
