The reason I made my first comment was what happened to me. I had an X on my Georgia CDL when I moved to Virginia. Since I was not planning to haul Haz-Mat I just had that X removed here. I forgot what the date my Virginia CDL was set to expire. I just remember when I lost my physical after my Epilepsy diagnosis I went to the DMV and changed my CDL to intrastate. I paid I think it was $20 and they reissued. When I got the hard copy my original expiry date was not changed. I later lost my driving privileges period. I imagine if you already have Haz-Mat and add tankers you will most likely pay a small fee as I did. Then get an updated CDL with the X but with the original expiry date. THIS is why I said without knowing the state I can only guess.
