Don't large loads of margarine fit in this catagory as well? I remeber a huge tunnel fire in Europe that was fueled by a truck load of margarine.

Any chemical that is listed as hazmat with it's own number is going to be a hazmat load if the hardourdous material is mixed into something else or not. The bottom line with hazmat is the cost to the driver I am a firm beliver that if a company wants you to haul hazmat then they should pay or at minimum help pay for the cost of the endorsement (I understand it is a tax right off, that's not the point) the companies want it then they can help. It comes down to a new driver if they can afford to get it and they may or may not need it then they need to continue paying for it until they might need it.

    EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!

I told the woman running the finger print department the exact same thing. She replied that I didn't know what I was talking about. That this was supposed to cut down on the chances of some one using a haz load for ill purposes. Obviously she was not listening to what I said.

I thought for sure there would be more money to be made in hauling HazMat.

Well, then I guess if someone wants me to haul it, they can pay for the endorsement. I studied and I could pass the test but forget it. I'll just go do Tanks and Doubles/Triples.

It isn't that she wasn't listening, it is just that she has been drinking the kool-aid too long.

Make money hauling loads for the Government???
    Really!
Of ALL the loads I have hauled, the Military loads paid far less than a comparable civilian load, especially HazMat loads.

One thing to consider if you are just starting out, that extra $80-$120 that you will spend to get your Hazmat will open alot of doors for you as a new driver and afford you more opportunities for finding employment. Some of the seasoned and experienced can afford to not have their's because they have a broader choice as to who will hire them. Just because you have the endorsement does not mean you will haul anything that needs placards. Whats an extra $100 if it can make you an extra $1000 at the end of the year, not by hauling the hazmat load, but just by being employed by someone who requires it for you to be employed there.
