Concrete mixers don't require tanker endorsement.

There is no hard set answer here. It depends on your job.If you don't now or will never in the future need to haul hazmat why go through it. You will always have to retest every time you renew and pay the hazmat background fee. If you think you will ever need to upgrade it does not take but a short period of time to get the results back and go test. So yes I do think it is pointless if your hauling for ajax water. However if you think you might ever be hauling hazmat then get the X.

My bad for not noticing this was a 2 year old thread.

    Get the #### thing anyway.

That way when Mr PICKYDOTMAN is standing your fuel tank calling you a tanker... you have that already. Sheesh. LOL.

It could have been blasting agent, which is basically ANFO. It's fairly stable to haul and handle. The name makes it sound worse than it is.
It takes a certain type of charge to set it off but it will also burn. It uses a specialized ammonium nitrate prill/diesel oil mix at specific rates.

You could be right. I've never really checked so I probably shouldn't have run my mouth.. But all the redi mix companies in our area require a tank endorsement to drive mixer.
    Maybe it's an insurance requirement?

I did find an old notice of rule making from 2009 where the FMCSA wanted to change the rules for what defines a tank vehicle to any mixer with an attached water tank of 1000 gallons or more. I have no idea how this ended up.

    Interesting Information.

That would be a huge water tank on a mixer. With what water weighs there might not be much poundage left for the concrete.

Most states don't require a tanker endorsement to drive a ready mix truck, but California DOES. Here is the proof. 20170526_195125.jpg
