Engine date of manufacture Glider

This tag is on the valve cover of the last Fitzgerald glider we bought. I believe it's a reman crate motor from Detroit Diesel that Fitzgerald (obviously) installed.
It says 1997 model year so it should be exempt from elogs.
I've never seen a 06RE serial number, im not sure what the E means?

How many can even identify the engine?

 

looks like a 8v detroit

 

With the engine being painted a grayish color I would guess its a Detroit myself

 

its defiantly a 8v 2 stroke Detroit but if its a 8v71t or 8v92t i couldn't tell you

 

@Airborne @Ezrider_48501 You both are on the right track.... Not as many cylinders as you think though . From what I'm seeing, it's most likely a 6V92T. Just odd to see a 2 stroke Detroit in a modern add like this.

 

6V92T I just bought last week.

 

That's a late model, it has a turbo.

 

What do you define as late model?
