Good friend with 389 and an ISX had to be rebuilt at 600,000ish deleted then too. Few months later Fuel pump crapped out and filled engine with metal. I don't remember if they were able to rebuild it or dropped in a different block. But then a few years later it put a rod through the block. It has a yellow engine now too

    Bakelite - Wikipedia
not sure it would have worked for that because even tho it is rock hard it is easy to chip.
The most common things made with it in the automotive field were ignition rotors, some distributer caps, the solenoid contact wire insulator caps on Delco starters to name a few.

I did a little reading up on it. From what I gathered online the original C1 prototype had a plastic body just to speed up the build. I remember an old Corvette book I had mentioned a Bakelite body.

The distributor caps and magneto caps in some of the old vintage tractors I have are made of Bakelite……

I've kind of refrained from commenting here until now until I read all the comments.
I've owned cat , Cummins and Detroit and none were perfect.
The one cat I owned was a 3406b got horrible fuel mileage but was very reliable....5 mpg if ya pushed it off a cliff with a tailwind .
Detroits were the best but not especially powerful.
Which leads to my 2013 isx , it had the carbon packing issue and polished liners resulting in insane oil consumption....overhauled at 684k ...and the big D done shortly afterward.
It's at 1.1 million now with no oil consumption and clean oil samples .

I’ve been pretty darn impressed with the B model in my 379. If my N14 ever takes plunge, I’d be hard pressed to not want to find a B or early C for it. Hard to find a good Cat at the salvage yards around here.

For what it’s worth, I have a ISX that was inframed at 1 million, and it’s about to roll over 600k currently. I try to keep it under 1600rpm and don’t push it. I keep clean filters and oil in it, gettin ready to run the overhead. Prolly lay down on me tomorrow now
