Didn’t see it until it was right in front of me and even then didn’t know what it was until I got out of the truck.

Insurance is gonna be dead set against a motor repair I think. I get it seen it or not that’s what we pay it for is accidents. I see the word accident meaning #### i didn’t intend to do.

I think the reason for getting off the tarmac and on the right of way may play in to it. It shouldn’t a desolate stretch of road like that with no true stopping area for miles shouldn’t be a problem.

it could be a fickle case. I am fairly certain they won’t pay for the whole bill. The first thing they will say is find one in salvage and get us a price. If that cannot be found They will try to determine what percentage of the motor was used up per se. Whether that will be a scientific determination or just some made up ######## they invent im not sure. They pro rate the job another words just grabbing numbers here for simplicity. Let’s say the engine was at 25 percent life. Or the damaged part cause they will only consider what’s absolutely necessary. They will pay 25 percent minus the deductible. They also can get finicky on certain parts of the job that has to be done but they just won’t include it. Makes no sense really.

He wants the pan off to see if the damage is consistent with oil starvation. I’m floored that all these mechanics can’t hear that whine in the starter, see the #### cables flex up from the amp draw and know it’s ####ed. I can’t believe guy had pan off and couldn’t see the proof on the caps. For any type of self proclaimed mechanic that’s very basic. With the pan off it’s without removing anything you can see a bearing cap that’s hot from starvation if you don’t it’s common sense pull the #### valve cover and check cam cause top oils last runs out first. Spin the filter off take your big tube cutter looking thing cut the top off and look in pleats for metal. When you’re paying some dumb m’fer over a hundred bucks an hour have advised him of the situation to the best of your knowledge these are things he should know. In my opinion he should have seen this dog ain’t gonna hunt. Advised you of such said there is absolutely no need in putting it back together. Charged you up to that point and called it a day. Unless of course you wanted to continue after his advice. It’s a terrible situation that i can see sliding down hill fast. I hope im wrong, just be prepared for more to come.

Why would an insurance policy cover that? That would be like if you had ran over something and a tire blew out. They don't cover stuff like this.

    Oxbow and AFC Thank this.

That is a good point. And one that makes me nervous. What about if you hit a deer? Would insurance cover you if your rim was damaged in your tire scenario? What about your bumper?
The other thing in the insurance covering it, I’m leased on to a company that has around 175 trucks combined and been in business many years. I am pretty sure they wouldn’t file a claim if they thought it wasn’t covered and definitely not tow the truck all the way back to Chicago from Vegas.

But I thought it was your truck. You keep saying the company is doing this and that, isn't all this your decision?
