I'm very picky about filters. I will only use CAT or Donaldson oil, fuel, or air filters. Catch CAT filters on sale by the case and they can be competitive with other brands.

Well, like I stated earlier, I have been fond of Donaldson ELF filters for some time. As far as additive, I use stuff from that Schaeffer oil has. Costs me about 2 cents per gallon of diesel to use it. Not sure most folks would need anything for lubricity in diesel, as most stuff being sold around now has some biodiesel in it, and just a 2% bio blend raises lubricity to pre ULSD levels.

    hello
    what is JT8 ?
Also what is the oil you recommend for ISX. I used Schaeffer and rollers are damaged, dkn if from the oil. 1 mil miles. used all kind of filters, like Donaldson, or fleetguard.

Schaeffer had nothing to do with rollers. The ISX cam and roller issues almost always center around metallurgy and poor design. Folks have been using just about every oil brand their is on the ISX, and many still have had these same failures. They would not be that common if it was because of a particular oil.

The Mystic JT8 is a good oil and can be had at some good pricing at local farm and home type outlets. I used it for a while in my ISX. Still had cam issues. Mystic is a good oil, but there is no oil on the market that is going to prevent these ISX cam issues every time. And just because one person used a particular oil and never had cam issues is not a scientific sampling. I have seen ISX cam issues with Rotella, Delo, Delvac, Kendall, etc.

I used rotella for many many years, with good results. But that was in cummins and cat engines. When i got a detroit i noticed. I went thru a lit of oil inbetween changes. Detroit suggested i use delvac. So b i tried it and whella no more top off's in between changes. Now i have a volvo but still use delvac. One time a speedco put in rotella by accident. I said whatever and ran with it. I used 3 gallons of top off inbetween changes. Btw i grease every 5k and change oil and fikters every 15k

Oils and engines are like guns and ammo.

I can take two different well crafted .22 rifles and feed them the same quality ammo and get different patterns down range. Same rifles with another quality brand of ammo, the one that shot better groups the first time may be worse this time. Nothing wrong with either rifles or ammo. Just one of life's little mysteries.

Exact same thing with engines and oils. You find something that works, stick with it. If results less than stellar, try another brand of oil. While the base oil between brands is very similar, the additive package that makes up 20-25% of a motor oil can be quite different.

Mobil delvac or delo400 would be the only oils i'd ever use. And @mover man just listed one reason right there.

I've used several different brands of motor oils and generally get the same results. I run what's cheapest and buy 15 or 20 buckets at a time on sale. What changes with my motor is if I have excessively high idle times then oil consumption goes up. But one brand being consumed more than another, never seen that yet.

Yeah, I haven't either. I have gotten some better oil sample results from what I am using now compared to other I was using. My Detroit 60 was shearing a Delo pretty bad. I am having very good results with a 10w30 syn blend.

I was using Co-op brand 0w40 synthetic and doing analysis. The numbers were good. Then I had the dealer do a change while it was in for a safety, they put in Rotella T6 5w40 synthetic. The very next oil change I put back in the Co-op, shortly after the analysis came back and the numbers from the Rotella were all down by half.
So the next change I put Rottella T6 back in, when the Co-op results came back, the numbers all doubled.
So ever since I've stayed with Rotella and the numbers have settled in at about 60% less than what I got on the Co-op oil.
So my experience is that there is a difference at least between a major brand and a minor brand.
