Hi all, I'm reaching out for some input on a major engine replacement project for my 2016 Iveco Daily Motorhome (3.0L).

My original engine has failed, and I am planning to install a newer engine unit due to availability. My core concern is electronic viability and integration between the model years.

    Vehicle Details:

    • Original Engine Code: F1CFL411H (2016 model, Pre-Euro 6 Step D/E)
    • Replacement Engine Code: F1CFL411B (Post-2019/2020 model, Euro 6 Step D/E)
The Core Problem: ECU & Wiring Harness Compatibility
The engine blocks (F1C 3.0L) are mechanically identical. However, the newer F1CFL411B unit uses a newer Bosch EDC17-based ECU

    My Main Question:

Since I am uncertain if the wiring is different, I need to know if the 2016 vehicle's original ECU/CAN-Bus can be successfully reprogrammed (flashed or cloned) to communicate and run the newer F1CFL411B engine? Or is the fundamental hardware and firmware difference between these two Euro 6 steps too great to bridge electronically?

    • Specifically, what are the differences in the electrical connections/plugs between the H-variant and the B-variant engine looms?
    • Are there specific sensors (such as NOx sensors, DPF pressure sensors, or injector coding) that must be physically retained from the older engine and transplanted, or bypassed/simulated for this swap to work?
    • Has anyone successfully "downgraded" a newer F1C engine using an older EDC17 (or equivalent) ECU from the pre-2019 Daily model?
Any advice from someone who has navigated the electronic headache of swapping F1C variants across Euro emissions steps would be massively appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Liam

Not to be mean or disrespectful, however have you tried posting on a forum like Caravaners or Out and About Live and such since they are motorhome forums? A 3 liter Iveco is a long way from a Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanics forums expertise, even before you start trying to meld foreign electronic controls into a properly working unit. Just a suggestion and I’m sorry I cannot be helpful.
