I was talking to a friend of mine who drove for Star. It seems after Covenant acquired them they turned Star into a red-headed step child.
Covenant trucks are allowed to use all of Star's terminals, but Star drivers can only fuel at Covenants.
There weren't any trucks around, he started counting and 18 new( experienced) drivers had 3 trucks. Just started and you're layed over before orientation is over.
A few drivers left before orientation was complete, and it's only 3 days.
The handful of them who were lucky enough to get trucks were rewarded with road worn 5 year old trucks.
Oh, yeah, there wasn't any freight.
They talked in class mostly about LTL freight.
Those trucks spent time in line behind other trucks for a spot in the shop, (where they were short handed because of mechanics quitting).
If your going to have orientation, why be so ill prepared? Drivers were hitching rides with other drivers to other terminals for more road worn trucks. Some took busses, planes, while most just sat around the terminal.
I'll just stay with my trucking day job, thank you. -
Do they allow pets?
-
Sorry.. I dont think so
-
Pets in company trucks is becoming rare.........

1. Star only fuel at Covenant yards... that is stupid, I can't even address that one.
2. Hiring people with no trucks for them, again just stupid. I can't think of any company who is going to pay to bring people to orientation knowing they don't have trucks for them. I have never heard or someone not getting a truck.
3. Old road worn trucks? Yeah if your new your not getting into one of our new Cascadias. Especially if your a rookie, they are going to let you cut your teeth in a 06 Columbia for a few months, instead of risking a new guy destroying a Cascadia. Seems more like common sense to me.
4. No Freight and LTL? I have never waited more than a day for a load. As far as LTL goes, we do a lot of that but who cares? Your getting paid by the mile not the load.
5. Never heard of any of our mechanics quitting, we have had the same guys and some new more since I have been there. We did loose one but, he was arrested and fired.
6. Yes, if they assign you a truck located at another terminal, then they will get you to catch a ride with another driver headed in that direction. Again, that seems more like a company using common sense than going out getting a plane or bus ticket. Your gonna be there faster riding with the other driver anyway. -
Hey, this is just what he told me. I do wish you the best. Be safe!
