Dude, when they post questions and keep talking about it as a paid vacation, I discourage people to get into this. There is a lot to be said that this should not be the last hope for people, it should be treated as a profession, with all the truths about what they will encounter, not told that it is a great life and you can do a lot.

I hear ya. I agree that people need to be warned that trucking is not "getting paid to see the country" and that it's a much harder job than most people think. It's all about the freight in that trailer, not about following the driver's whims.

However, I'm definitely glad that when I started this forum wasn't around to discourage me from following this path. I still dig driving for a living. My worst days driving are still better than my best days working in a warehouse or an office building ever were. And the only way anyone will know if it's the right fit for them is to just take the plunge.

You get out of trucking what you put into it. Just be willing to roll with the punches and understand we all have good days and bad days. Stop taking yourself serious all the time BUT remember there are times when you should also stay professional. Some days you get the bear some days the bear gets you. This is the way it has been around this job for decades. Is not changing any time soon either!

    Run forest run

It ain't what it used to be your going to be in shell shock. The back row ain't party row anymore, English is a 2nd language, I mean 3rd sorry behind Spanish and euro-trash broken english. The days of steel toes and levis have turned into track suits and flip flops. Trucks are no longer steel, their nothing but plastic nanny state cattle prods

Your gonna be trained by someone half your age, 3x your weight and he's gonna tell you how he's the man because he's doing a lease purchase killing the rates for the true old hands

Yeah the getting paid to see the country is bs. Yeah you see the country mostly interstates with nothing but trees and signs and signs for food you can't have because you can't park your truck in their lot or close to it.

That's the best view you'll have all the food your craving but can't have. I pass so many Hardee's burger joints and I'm drooling for a sourdough bacon burger but nope no room for trucks.
