I am on the tight timing here , plan is to leave 7pm today and cross into Canada through Detroit, sleep several hours somewhere in Canada and watch Niagara Falls from there , sightseeing from tower , walks around , diner , head back if not too late same way , find sleeping place on the way to mackinac island in Michigan, ..maybe find hotel Saturday eve near by , Sunday mackinac island, afternoon - head back to Chicagoland...maybe through wisconsin since I live on wi/il border to see more sightseeing along the way .
I am also going to Niagara in Mid August. Have a family of five coming from Germany to visit and they wanna see the waterfall. I think I went there like 10 times already with different guests lol. After Mackinaw it's worth to see Oswald bear ranch in UP and get to pet a baby bear
I go to ND at least once a month and take US 2 all the way from Grand Forks to UP and then drop down to Detroit. It is indeed very beautiful out there
