Sounds like a fellow bass head here.
I would way Alma got me into more extreme audio in the late 90s. Hell if a grandma is doing 160db why can't I? Lol
I found a market based on the most common truck out on the road, one that there are o/o and company drivers only because I could use this truck as a engineering/guinea pig. Can do RTA to make sure what is sold ends up being the most proper set up at a cheaper than custom cost - and not permanent. So weather its just a company driver or a o/o there are options.
All options Iam thinking of.

It's too bad everything is Chinese crap these days. I made a great living selling PPI, Soundstream, MB Quart, Boston, Xtant, Kicker, Alpine, Sony ES, Audiocontrol, etc. ID horns started coming on the scene right as I was exiting it.
A friend and coworker had a set of horns under the dash of his BMW with JL 10's or 12's in the kick panels and a big 15 in the truck, all Zapco amps. That was the best imaging car I've ever heard. -
Yeah China took over the world. I worked at a company that went from building 20-30,000 speakers a year to about 500 and then it was hacking time. The company stayed in business for other reasons non speaker related.
Cool that you judged. I still go to all the local shows in Sacramento build the guys sub's promote brands and stuff.
Right now iam working with a competitor who is purely in to sq but lives heavy low end. Since Iasca is almost non existent he competes in Psyclone instead. Highest DB at lowest freq on music. Then they do a RTA.
So you get SPL score plus a RTA score plus a install score.
This guy is 2-3 place right behind the loudest truck in CA. 160+ on music his numbers are crazy 156@22 or something 16hz @154.
My guy has two 21"s I built was on 9k total pair but he just got 4-7000w amps. And about to rebuild the sub's again. This time a lower Fs more xmax (usually xmax isn't important but in this case it is) more power handling ability ofcourse. -

its nice to here others are audiophile's as well. from the sounds of it, im just in the beginning stages of something much bigger. I started w/a 50wx4 sony explode and 6 factory junks in a 9400i international.next came replacing all w/infinity's.that was a big improvement but still not worth a ####.wally world sells a 12" dual for 30bucks and a 400w amp for 60. just enough to get a fever.blow the 12" buy 2- 8"s in boxes, blow them, replace the 12 w/a new pioneer 1400w max.still using the 400w dual amp,8 months in the pioneer blows. the bass with a little 400w and a 12 is UNBELEIVABLE...but not enough. now I've got 2-12 fosgates w/a jl audio 400w amp,a 400w jl audio amp pushin 6 jl audio 5'' mids and a 1200w pyramid amp pushin 2 sony 6x9"s. im in audio heaven..country,rock,old classic rock.its 3D stereo.

please explain.how does a speaker(that has no electrical power) overdrive an amp? I know not to overdrive the speaker with a amp that's got too much rms power for the speaker to handle.so my 400watt amp(max) isn't going to over drive a speaker that's rated for 800watts rms/1400w max. I think its just jap crap.
-
Who had the cigarette plug in amp idea that's about the worst idea I've ever heard in my life.
-
And gator under powering a speaker will kill it just as fast better to have to big of an amp and tune back in my experience. That and walmart speakers are just that
-
It amazes me that people use so much power when they don't think of a couple simple things -
- the sensitivity of the speaker is important, not many even consider it.
- a lot of these amps are poor design and relatively high THD or are driven hard enough to produce harmonics to cause a lot of distortion.
- the source of the audio they play isn't really the best to being with, many get copies of copies which are made at the lowest rates with the highest errors.
