Motel 6 on the I20 service rd in Odessa. It's at the corner of Hwy 385 and I20. Should run about $100 a night for the smallest room you've ever seen. It's clean.

I attended the Job Fair in Midland on the 8th......... there were 13 employers, only 8 hired CDL drivers. Most wanted experience. I have a newly minted CDL with Hazmat, Tankers and Doubles/Triples Endorsements - no driving experience other than school. After the Job Fair I hit places on I-20 and Business 20 from Midland to Odessa. No luck. I have also applied on line to a bunch of places. So, I guess that now I sit and wait.

But, the upside is that at the end of the month (October) I start as an OTR driver hauling a tanker. And, the job is based in DFW. So, when I get some 6 months experience, I will return to Midland when I am off and again knock on doors.

Am not giving up, just refining my plan of attack.

Maybe some are hiring newbies, but it seems that one has to dig and hustle a little to locate them - it is no cakewalk. I applied to about 25 places on line, 8 at the job fair (in Midland), and about 10 in person (in Midland), and I have only had two calls. One call was to work on a Frac Crew, not really as a driver. Maybe the timing is off - I am approaching the companies when they are almost full and the labor supply has met the demand for now? But the Oil Field has its ups and downs, we might be looking at a down, flat, or stable, period right now. I am talking about overall, I am sure that there are some employers in the Basin that are hiring newbies, but they seem to be mostly interested in drivers with experience.

The solution............ well, I do have a job lined up starting in October as a tanker OTR driver in the DFW area. My attitude is to give the Midland area employers what they want........... get some experience, then hit them again. And, keep hitting them while I am getting that experience. It will happen, it just might take a tad longer than I thought.

Just my opinion, of any others of you see it differently, please chime in.

Would you mind PM'ing me the place that offered you the Frac position? I'd go for that.
