Well, like I said, I am going to do whats best for my family. I have 2 kids. One with my ex wife who has custody, and my fiancee has one with her ex husband. I don't get to see my kids every day, but to know that I will be able to pay to put a roof over their head, buy clothes, and see the smile when I am home, that's what I want. I've already made the decision to part with the family for a month at a time in the past, driving farm trucks in Idaho during Potato and Sugarbeat season in Paul, ID. So I'm just going to say this is going to be along the same lines.

Thank you for your input American Trucker. Again, as well as everybody else that has posted on this thread.

You will pay more for food and stuff while in training. I have gone out with hubby for 6 weeks and we spend about $75.00 a week while both of us are out. We eat out at least 1 time per week. No inverter in the truck so we bought a 40 qt Coleman ac/dc cooler from Walmart. Works great and stores a lot. We both smoke but buy ours before leaving home. We cook all of our food on a portable gas grill that we got from Walmart for $20.00. Pork chops, BBQ chicken breasts, burgers etc. We take the paper off of the cans and open the lid and it heats great in no time. We eat pretty good on the road for a lot less then eating out all the time.

Can't say much about box trucks since hubby drives flatbed. He is still in his 1st 90 days own his own and is bringing home 645.00-765.00 a week.

A small 12 volt oven will only run you about $30 depending on what truck stop you buy it at. Takes about 20 minutes to heat the food...you're good to go.

    Okay my bad.

I missed the Bi-weekly part, when you posted your check.

The hardest thing I've found about my "location" on lifes road. Is the urge to jump at higher paying jobs, when I see one. Old habits die hard.

I could easily increase my pay. But I would lose my perks ;) And I ain't giving those up. But man it is sooooo tempting sometimes.

The wife would give me a nose bleed, by inserting a size 7 some place it didn't belong if I even tried.

It is hard to resist at times..which is why it pays to research it well before making that final decision..
