Another option might be Sable Express. It's a bit like Bigroad but they just announced free log storage. The others don't seem to have that yet.

I'm not a fan of any of the EOBR/ELD solutions insofar as log storage goes. They tend to only keep them for 6 months, yet if you claim per diem you're going to want them to stick around 3-5 years or so just in case. Nobody seems to have a robust solution for managing aged-out logs, either. I'd like to see an option to "Download ALL", or the ability to have them emailed as a PDF every X number of days/weeks, or incrementally as they're aged out.
With BigRoad, I can email them to myself at least, but the trick there is remembering to do it. As it is right now, I print them off to sign, and just file the printed copies, but I'd like to streamline my workflow a little.johnbwheel and double yellow Thank this. -
Ya, agreed. They seem to think its only for compliance. Sables system will at least let you email from the device like big road, I also have it setup to automatically email my office. I should be having it sent to my personal as well.
you can download the logs in a zip file, but PDF like a report would be better.
One question though, do you use the maps in BigRoad? -
I do not use the maps in BigRoad, I'd sort of rather they weren't there as it clutters the screen and eats data for no reason. But, then again, I don't tend to have BigRoad in the foreground while I'm running...more likely for it to be Waze or Trapster.

I know this is an older post but I just downloaded the app keep trucking. I read online because it allows an electronic signature that paper copies are unnecessary, and if officer wants paper it can be faxed from app. Also copies can be emailed to home office if necessary.

Smartphone, tablet logging apps no longer require printing or manual signatures, FMCSA says
Digital logs produced by smartphone, tablet or computer apps no longer have to be printed and signed manually by drivers, according to new guidance on digital logs issued this week by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Digital logs can now be signed with electronic signatures and submitted to carriers to satisfy federal logbook requirements, FMCSAs guidance says.
This guidance changes previous agency guidance issued in 2011 that said drivers must print the digital logs and sign them each day, in addition to being able to print the records for the previous 24-hour period and maintain printed and signed copies for the previous seven days and be able to produce seven days of logs for enforcers.
Under the new guidance, if a driver can sign the logs electronically, they do not have to print logs each day and do not have to maintain printed and signed logs for the previous seven days.
From an enforcement standpoint, drivers can display current and records of duty status for the previous seven days on their devices screen. If an inspector asks for printed copies, drivers must be given the opportunity to print them during the inspection, FMCSA says.
If electronic signatures cannot be used within the app, though, drivers must still print and sign their logs each day and have on them printed and signed records of duty status for the preceding seven days.
The agencys guidance here refers exclusively to apps or other software that are not integrally synchronized with a trucks operations (like electronic logging devices and their predecessors, automatic onboard recorders) and require drivers to change their duty status manually.
According to the agencys guidance, simple digital logs, like in smartphone apps, do not count as electronic logging devices or automatic onboard recorders, as they do not connect with the trucks engine or computer to gauge operations like power status, motion status, engine hours, etc.Cetane+ Thanks this. -
To be an ELB by the rule the Feds have proposed it MUST interface with the trucks ECM.
The mandate they have proposed requires a ELD to interface with the trucks ECM. The full proposal is at http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2014-03-28/pdf/2014-05827.pdf but is difficult to read.
A summary done by Overdrive Mag. can be found at http://www.overdriveonline.com/eld-...vices-industry-groups-split-on-rules-support/. See the Hardware Specifications section at the second link.
Big Road, Drivers Daily Log and other computer software/Apps do not meet the hardware requirements. -
What's a truck ECM can't seem to find one on this 1988
