Since the gov't is doing to the trucking industry that Obama has done to our economy, healthcare and constitution, I am happy the gov't is mandating the black boxes. I now have a retirement date from the trucking world!! I have 2 tractors for sale, 1998 Classic Frtlnr, and 2001 Kenworth .. The Kenworth has a 144" sleeper, and is tricked out with the finest of equipment. Both tractors cannot go into Calif. ---To Old!! So, I am going to leave this oppressive industry and enjoy the freedom that for those of you will only fantasize if you stay in the industry! Freedom!!! Awhaaaaaaaaaa...thank you for black boxes!! Freedom!!!!!
Eobr next gen...

For once I am not being sarcastic.PLEASE aquire some real world experience before you get too deep in that particular thought process. So you want the eobr to just brake your truck down to 35 when it is 35.If you had any idea of the driving conditions that that would create, you would apologise for starting the thread. It is not realistic nor should it be.
might as well stick a fork in America if the gubmint goes anywhere near that type control. Our economy would cease as we now know it.TwinStickPeterbilt Thanks this. -
that's funny.i don't care who you are.thanks for the post!TwinStickPeterbilt Thanks this.

I have to say once it's mandated, you can have my keys. No I'm not running down the road tearing log pages out and throwing them out the window. No I'm not running 110 in a 55. I JUST WANT MY PRIVACY. I want the one last thread of privacy I have as a driver. Your more than welcome to do an inspection, I'll pass. Your more than welcome to search my truck, you won't find anything. I'm not out here trying to be some outlaw, I just don't want Uncle Sam going "Well TSP it's at such and such a point going x miles an hour" Why? Because since truck were invented we've been able to move your freight safe and sound from A to B on paper log books. Just because you (FMCSA) thinks it's easier for me to run EOBR, I prefer paper. YOU DONT DRIVE THIS TRUCK THAT DELIVERS AMERICAS FREIGHT. I DO. RESPECT THAT.
Numb, mickey melon, that65 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'd hold off on buying the EOBR right now.
The current models
most likely won't even meet the standards that they want to mandate.Meltom Thanks this. -
My luck will be when they mandate it they won't need us drivers anymore.

Well, TwinStick, I understand about the privacy thing being an issue, but I take it one step further. I am not going to just tell them they are free to search my truck. They may do it, but I do not have to consent. If in the real far off chance they were to find something illegal, then in court, if you denied them consent, and they could not prove probable cause, it might just get thrown out. By regulation, they have a right to look at my logs, they even have a right to inspect my truck for compliance with FMCSA guidelines. But a general search? Not hardly. That still falls under regular law, and I do not consent to any searches. True, they have the gun and the badge and can do it if they so choose to, but the burden of proof in front of a judge has to be proven. One might actually dodge a bullet, metaphorically, and get out of any charge.
Joetro, TwinStickPeterbilt and 900,000-tons-of-steel Thank this. -
I agree completely, what I meant was I'm willing to comply with some rules.
They search my truck they better put it all back like it was. I don't so much my the search but if they throw my #### out the door were gonna have a problem.Cowpie1 Thanks this. -
Not long after, if things go the way they are. There have been a lot of articles in the fleet style trucking rags about automated trucks not using drivers. The technology is pretty much around the corner, just a matter of implementing it. Even then, I don't see it becoming a serious threat in the near term. There are just too many variables to moving a truck down the road. And the public is going to have to be on board. If they have a fit, it will come to halt. Politicians may not listen to us, but they do have to get reelected by their constituents.
Either way, FMCSA is set to put out the mandate proposal near the end of this month, with a two month comment period. Given their track record so far, I would envision that a mandate will be in place by this time next year. Can only hope I am wrong about that.TwinStickPeterbilt Thanks this. -
Bad as I hate to say it your probably right. I don't like it but I guess I can always stick to farming. All I've ever done is drive a truck and it's all I ever wanted to do, but this is to far. I'll give it up before I'd drive a truck with mandated EOBR. Their forcing me to consent to more government power. Not this country boy, you can have my truck.
Joetro Thanks this.
