There are some using a smartphone with a hard dockand a tie to the ecm, too. The Rand McNally one is there, but I have no experience with e-log, and my experience with Peoplenet didn't impress me.
I'm going a little ways out on a limb here saying the E-log won't help everyone have a better score. Make sure you document the drivers know how to use it or they will be ticketed for that.
I'm staying with paper as long as I can, not enough problems to worry about, and I can make sure no one else edits them myself that way, not like my buddy on e-logs with a safety guy who is about clueless.
He's worse than clueless in my opinion and I have only heard about him.

This whole E-LOG,jump on the band wagon is the biggest ''Fantasy'' since de-reg and Social Security.IMO it's another Ponzi Scheme..
It amazes me that nothing has changed with the American People. They seem to love this Government Kool-Aid.They just keep slugging it down there throats.
Again. Many many drivers on E-LOGS can no longer drive a truck..This is proof alone that the E-LOGS are not the drivers Lord And Savior.Somehow the drivers think this alone will save them and give them a better score.....
You want a better score.?..Well i suggest doing a Pre Trip every 15 miles on the get off ramp and work very hard at it..This may not even get you a better score. We have way to many Over Zelous Cops wanting REVENUE FOR THE STATES..No matter how ''perfect'' you may want to be,the DOT Cop will find something if he wants to.
The game is dirty and its rigged.. -
This is the best statement i have heard on TTR in a long long time..TwinStickPeterbilt Thanks this.

My husband has done the paper and the elogs. His is through qualcomm with the company he is with now. I think it is really a lot faster than the paper, you don't have to worry about drawing lines and getting them on the right spot, flagging the city and state, etc, as long as you log it the right way. Their's has the lady yapping on how much drive time they have left and it has the counter for time left before you run out of the 8 for the 1/2 hr break, it resets to the remaining time left after you stop.
I don't know if you can have set parameters on it or what, you can drive real slow for a certain distance before it trips the on duty driving, like moving around in a truckstop, or possibly a mile or two down the road at slow speed. Driving is the only thing that cannot be changed once it is tripped. There is no cheating, and no leeway if you run out of time and you have 10 miles left to go to get where you need to be, if you're out of time and go, it will be a violation. Doing an 8/2 split has kept him out of hotwater on some "Hail Mary" loads in the past.
If you have decent load planners it will help. You can't have a driver be at point A if he doesn't have the hours to get there legally.
But your drivers still need to know how to log a paper log, just in case the electroinics go down for some reason, it happens. This is where I think log depts pull their hair out trying to get elogs and paper logs to agree in the case of a system failure, or that is at least what he said they told him awhile back somewhere else he worked when the qualcomm went down.
You can have it set where they can drive off duty not under a load for things like going home, he keeps his down to only so many miles away though. If it is a long ways, he has gone ahead and taken a 10.freyst Thanks this. -
I have a poster of an OB1 don't need a Idiot telling me what to do. Get bills, find trailer & leave. Call me, I might even answer. New trucking. I'm snowed in, no answer. Quallcomm, some kind of Australian BBQ I guess.

So many rebels in the trucking world. The fact of the matter is, the ELOG does help your score under the safe driving category. Whether you want to admit it or not, the data is there to show scores are lower with e-logs than those that aren't. Here's the thing, that's really only going to help mega carriers like Landstar who is 100% owner operator compete against companies in our category that are forced dispatch company drivers. The system is broken, because a company with 8,500 trucks leased onto it is in the same category as a company with 500 trucks. Who do you think is going to get inspected more? By sheer numbers LS is going to get more inspections than "Bob's Truck Service" because we have over 8,000 more trucks than they do on the road, yet, they are in our same category and have a better record than we do because they were all on e-logs and we're split between e-logs and paper. Not just that, but many times the DOT sees that "electronic logs on board" and their heart sinks because they know they aren't going to catch someone with "logs not current" and typically pass on doing a Level 2 or Level 1 inspection. The data is there to show I'm speaking the truth, you just have to go research it for yourself and look at how our scores dropped the minute Landstar started enforcing the EOBR's to new lessees.
There is a lot that needs to be fixed with FMCSA. This is just one of many things.landstar8891 and NavigatorWife Thank this. -

I'm way to old for this. I thought a "elog" was something like that "Xmas" cake everyone keeps trying to pass on to me. Get rid of it, Tramp might eat it. Aunt Martha made it in 1979. The tin box looks nice though.
Lilbit and landstar8891 Thank this. -
