Hey Pops how much you making in training? Are you getting paid by the miles or a set rate for the week? They had an add in my job update, would like ti drive for them but I'm not sure I can afford the lower mileage rate for 6 weeks.

Mack, they pay .25cpm during training. Depending on your trainer and how many miles you get each week, most average 2500+ even during training. Mine haven't been that many because of the holidays and such. Pay is right on schedule every week.
My advice, suck it up for 6 weeks. It is a great company to work for, nice equipment, home EVERY weekend and good pay. Keep me posted on what you decide to do. I don't think you can go wrong with Epes.

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while. Got my truck, got dispatched and been haulin' freight. I don't have a means to connect to the net while I'm in the truck. Not interested in using the free wifi sites so have to rely on home time to provide updates. Last weekend I was home less than 24 hours. Part my fault for asking the shop to repair a few minor things on my truck on a Friday morning. Lesson learned....
Got home this week mid afternoon on Friday, leaving to go back out around lunch time today. Could wait and leave early tomorrow, I am already pre-planned on a trip to Garden City, GA and I want to be sitting at the cons at sunrise fresh and ready for my next load. Spent the early part of last week doing short runs, local type runs of all things and that pretty much screwed my week. I wound up with 1700+ for the week which wasn't too awful bad considering 1 1/2 days of the short stuff. Excited to see what I will get this week....more later....

    Hey POPS,
Thanks for sharing your experience with Epes. It's really nice to read a positive story. Also, congratulations on finishing training and being assigned a tractor. Drive safe!

Still no internet connections in truck, heck it has trouble keeping my phone charged at night. Truck needs many minor things repaired.
Still hauling ALOT of freight. Epes has been keeping me busy. I actually can't think of a time when I haven't been pre-planned prior to delivering the load I am on. No waiting on loads but have spent some time waiting at shippers and consignees to be loaded / unloaded. Even that is pretty rare. All the drop and hooks we do tend to spoil you a little.
My driver manager has been giving me good miles, doesn't bother me at all and always helps me when I have questions or problems. Two of the trainers, one I trained with and the other I met on this forum call me on a regular basis to check up on me and have helped answer questions and straighten me out when I thought I was in a jam. Two great guys!
I guess I have been getting between 2600 and 3000 miles a week the last 3 weeks. Nice paychecks! They have asked me several times if I wanted to help out on a dedicated account for a few weeks because they are short on drivers for that account. I finally agreed to try it for a week or two. I can go back to otr anytime I want if this is not what I want to do. I will be out 4 days and home 2 days each week, get paid hourly - 12 -13 hour shifts and do 3 trips per day. Drive between Orangeburg, SC and Hannahan, SC. Back and forth - this is the part I don't think I will like. Same road, day after day. We'll see....
I can't say anything but positive things about Epes. Go, run, hurry and apply to work for them. Just make sure you don't leave any ghosts in the closet. Their hiring process will find all the ghosts, I can promise you that. They only want the best.

I've been following your travels since you started. Thanks and keep up the good work. Attitude, that's what it's all about and it seems as though you have a great attitude!

I'll look for you on your route. I've loaded at both the places you are going between and travel that road quite a bit.

I come from a refrigerated background. As far as waiting for loads at the meat plant, well its not uncommon to sit for a restart. Just somewhat nervous about elogs, never used before. I hope its not to bad on deliveries. Still I sit awaiting the phone call to see if I will be a new addition to EPES
