As I stated before, if the shipper wants to insure the horse for a higher value, than he has to provide
and pay for that insurance himself. If the carrier would have the obligation to supply multi million
dollar property insurance in general, than this insurance of course would be sky high.
A former racehorse trainer got his own authority last year and started his horse hauling
business. He pays 13000 USD per year for his entire insurance package for semi and trailer. Imagine
what his rate would be for multi million coverage.
In 1997 Brook Ledge INC from Oley, PA, another leading horse hauler, was sued for the death
of a horse which died after the trailer caught fire. Brook Ledge was not found liable to pay more than
the insured value of 1000 USD.
See for yourself. Here is the link for that lawsuit:

But what I'm almost positive of is it was auctioned off in the Forth Worth Stockyards as I read about it in the local Fort Worth paper. (Star Telegram)REO6205 Thanks this. -
What all is required for commercial insurance for equine hauling ? is it just liability and cargo ?
-
I knew of a person that was just hauling some regular horses for hire with a pickup and gooseneck horse trailer, that wrecked and was sued over it. I can't see how the bug time guys may have come up with something like this to make it work.
I know sometimes there is actually a person riding in the trailer, how would one insure for that?
