Jumped from $100/hr to $120/hr between last fall and this spring, before fuel went really nuts.

8 hour minimum, or 4 hours to show up and anything over 4 is 8.

If you bid it at a competitive rate, they won't give you a 5yr contract, probably 1yr, 2 at most. If you're making $ with this someone will figure it out and underbid you by just enough that you'll lose the contract.

You offer them a tractor and 3 trailers for 8k/mo, some ahole will sweeten the deal with 2 tractors, 4 trailers and 7k/mo. This will happen over and over till they are using a company that will screw up enough that they lose the contract and start looking to pay more $ once again for good service.

    But...But...That's how is always works!

Had a shared contract where we were 1/3 rd to the other carrier's 2/3 rds but after the shipper's local office started to meet the customer service driven demands it would end up 50/50.

The other carrier would fly down to houston, dust off the private box at the stadium, and smooze the corporate to get the lanes re-balanced.

It happened on a regular basis, year after year.

How do you know the customer actually likes you...

He gives you the opportunity to meed the other scumbags lowball bid to keep his business....

Last big jobsite I was working in Montana. The head honcho at the jobsite told me they were paying $165 an hour for side dump.
