If thats 40 trailers for an 8 hour shift..........thats pretty gravy
-
the guy said 40 a 8hr shift, but he also said that once I have gotten good at it I should be able to do 9 an hr. that adds up to 72 a shift, course you factor in breaks, lunch etc I bet that number comes down.

I kind of enjoyed spotting with our yard dog. But just as a break from my regular driving. Don't know that I would exactly enjoy doing that for a full time gig. OTOH, it IS a job. The hours are probably pretty steady. You are home every day.
Don't really see a down side to it, at least as a stop gap measure. (That is if your knees can take it!) -

I started out doing that job when I was 18, did that for several years, it was the best experience, because by the time I was old enough to drive on the road, I could back up better than a lot of people. I got better experience doing that job than I would have if I had gone to a driving school.
Also it was decent pay, and home every day -
If they have U.S. Government plates and you knew what's in the trailer then you'd understand why they're like that. -
I had a co-driver that did that type of work for along time. Anytime there was a impossible backing job I'd let him take it and I'd get out and watch all the other drivers with their jaws on the ground. It was funny. Sounds like a good job and the way things are you'd be much better off. Besides if you want to go OTR later you might meet someone that will give you a break and make it real easy for you.
trey3670 Thanks this. -
I just had an interview for a spotter job up here in ILlinois. I just got out of CDL school and am having a hard time getting a call back from local companies so i figure this would be better than nothing . Pay is not really good : part time 30 to 35 hours per week 15 dollars per hour but i guess it will hellp my backing skills and keep me in a truck . Maybe down the road this company might give me achance for OTR. I will know in aweek if I got it or not.
