You could probably go to work at a large trucking company that provides training to get your cdl also.

I think with the current claim that there is a shortage of drivers here which is BS but any ways the company might be able to help you get a work visa on that note.

    Hahahahaha
We do speak the queens english. It's you lot that are hard to understand :p

I would do just about anything to get behind the wheel of a truck in the U.S.
I will do some more research and see what I can dig up regarding Visa information. Everything I can find that is current suggests that people are still going from Australia to the U.S and driving long haul trucks for a year or more at a time.
I keep seeing a H2b visa mentioned, but I am not sure if this is still current with the changes mid last year as mentioned earlier by Karlin72.

I have fired off a few emails to some trucking companies and see if I get a reply with any decent info.

Florida has always been at the top of my list of places to visit over there. If I can scratch up enough coin I will definitely be heading that way for a visit.

Pint of beer will set you back roughly $8 Australian at present.
Cigarettes........ hold on to your chairs......... $38 for a pack of 25!!

If I get cancer I better not be paying any bloody medical bills. I am paying them off with every pack of smokes I buy!

As you can tell by the name i'm an Aussie mate i have in the past been able to get a H2b visa and actually drive tractor trailers in the USA. That is a complicated process in itself but i won't get into visa issues right now unless you want to ask. The demand for truck drivers is really high especially for OTR most drivers want to drive through the day and be home with the family for the night so alot will not drive interstate for this reason. So demand is great, however due to the GFC in 2008 alot of unemployment grew and people who where working in fancy air conditioned offices now were attempting to drive trucks. So i can see why some may resent foreigners driving although lots have actually come over as legal immigrants its no different to Australia Mate during the mining boom i did not think it was fair that Big companies would hire Foreign workers while over looking local ones I like the visa system in the US because they won't just give out visas willy nilly for a company to hire workers from overseas they must first petition the dept of labour and prove that not enough local workers will accept the work this involves a lengthy advertising campaign to prove they can not get enough workers then the dept of labour will pass on the petition to DHS who approve any visa's. While driving i used to get asked quite alot about why i was driving in the USA and i used to say it was not about the $ cause i was actually making more dough in Australia it was all about the experience. I got to travel around the whole country for free and got to see alot of great sites, and meet lots of incredible people.

    Haha
We have a public health system which is government funded and we can also opt for private health plans funded by the individual.
I am not sure whether Cancer treatment is covered by public health tho. Some of it at least is.
But you can see where the money for the public health comes from at least partly ;)

Thats exactly what attracts me to driving over there. I guess in a way its an adventure. A way to get out of Australia and see another part of the world and make a few bucks doing it.

When was your most recent trip to the USA driving trucks?
And do you know anyone who has done it in the last 12 months or so?

    kiwi23 Thanks this.
