First I want to say thank you to Chompi for my congrats. There was no way I was going to spend thousands of dollars to be trained for something I already knew how to do and have done before.I have always believed that there are always other options and where there is a will there is a way, sometimes it is better to take the road less traveled. Now for my update,I met with the owner op yesterday and we hit it of great. He showed me the truck (which he takes very good care of) and told me what he wants me to do before I even start it,He wants a real pretrip & my hat off to him for that.We are just waiting on paperwork now so just a few more hoops to jump through but he said he does not see any problems,so if all goes well I should be on the road in just a few weeks. My first run he is going to send another driver with me just to check me out, just good business I would do the same thing. This is a run I will be doing every weekend. In these two days I will be making more than I did at my forty hour a week job plus having the next 5 days off.To others out there in the same boat as me this is an option you might want to try just like Chompi & a few others suggested.I will keep updating as things progress, again I would like to thank everyone for their advice & help.Be safe out there & may God be your co-driver,Mark

you should be starting in LESS than a few weeks. what do you got to do, the piss test, physical, DMV report, not much else, unless the post office needs to check your background as well........???

    good luck, keep us posted.

Good luck with the mail run deal. I'm in the same situation but am 63 years old with only 2 years experience ending in 2003. I probably wont get hired even with formal training...

If you go at it with a defeatist attitude, you probably won't, FYI i am on the other side of 69 (No Comments please) and the first of sept I have a year with my company after being off the road for 26 years :biggrin_25514:

Hello everyone sorry I have not posted sooner.Well I am on the road again & it feels good.Trucks these days are much more powerful than they were 25 years ago lol,I can walk up steep grades and never have to downshift.I also love the air ride,no more getting beat around like in the old days with those cabovers.Things don't seemed to have changed all that much, drivers still asking each other if the chicken coops are open & where the bears are.I hope others out there in my shoes also have a happy ending to their stories,I want to say thank you again to everyone who posted & for your advice & wishing me well.Everyone please be safe out there and may God be your co-driver.

What I would like to see is a list of companies that will hire on drivers that have had schooling and past OTR, but would NOT make you throw out 5K for training again
