Yeah, go spend your money on that CDL, then when you have it ask yourself this question: "If YOU owned a truck, or trucking company, would YOU hire an x offender, knowing full well that when I do I'm going to get a contract with a company that wants me to haul coins from the Denver mint."

    Would ya hire him?

I know where your going with your comment, so let me respond. I have a federal felony, for theft from a bank. When I was first looking to get my CDL, the first school I talked to laughed and suggested I should sweep floors. The second school I talked to, the recruiter gave me his card and made an appointment for the next day. Before I left his office, I had offers from two different OTR companies (Werner and Schneider), and a lead with a local beverage company. That was in '97, I finished my school number 2 in the class, with high praise from all instructors. Only reason I didn't finish first, I ran over a dozen cones and construction barricade on our first road day.

Took me 7 days after I graduated to get a job with a local beverage company, that lasted 3 months (after being forced to violate workers comp laws), then I moved on to a local McD's distribution center, lasted 5 months (would have lasted longer had they not decided to cover for a liar), then I started with my current company, where I just celebrated 25 yrs.. Oh, and I've hauled loads of coins from the Denver mint, I've also driver a specialized tractor trailer for the US Air Force, I've also picked up and delivered to numerous military bases, including Ft. Carson, Kirtland, F.E. Warren, Peterson and Schriever. Just because someone has a felony, does not always mean they are a horribly person. Oh, and I didn't have to pass a background check to haul coins for the Mint, I did to drive that truck for the Air Force, they didn't have a problem.

Thank you for this. And to rodbuilder, I'm sorry you feel that way about people who make mistakes in life. I did my time and I'm moving on now. Going to prison can happen to anybody. You could hit someone and kill them and catch an involuntary manslaughter charge. Then you're lookin at 7 years. Does that make you a bad person? Should it taint you for life? No.

I'm a good genuine dude who had a drinking problem and was not aware that shooting a laptop computer in your living room while other people are in the house would be a first degree assault. Furthermore, because of my drinking, I didn't really care at the time what the consequences were. But I sure as hell did when I was sleeping on the floor in a tank my first night in jail. But that old me is dead, and I WILL move forward and be successful.

@Chinatown I got some good news. Hogan contacted me today. The recruiter is aware of my situation and knows I need CDL training to get my license back. He was on board and told me he just needs my PO to give me a travel permit. Well my PO is more than willing to do that so I have to call the recruiter tomorrow to move forward with this. On top of that, I've got some other offers on indeed. So I know I'll be working again and soon.

And @Rodbuilder1947 , I'm not a thief and have no interest in stealing any coin. Or anything for that matter. I don't bite the hand that feeds me. As a matter of fact, when I drove for Sygma delivering groceries, if I came across, let's say a box of frozen chicken that I missed at a Panera Bread Co. I would take it back to them. And if the store was too far out of the way to double back, I would call the manager, tell them I found their chicken and let them know I would drop it off in the morning after I finished my route. And sure enough, after my route, I would hop in my own personal truck and take the product to them. Now, some people might see this an opportunity to have some free chicken dinners at home for a week. Not me tho. I don't move like that. I'm not a scumbag.

    So ask yourself.

Do you think you have me pegged based on a blemish on my record when you have no idea who I am as a person?

Don't even bother. I had a conviction from 21 years ago and the recruiter called me and said we are no longer considering you for employment.

Good. I found a much better company that trained me and took me on and said "We don't care about convictions that happened under Clinton."
