Well, the man's allowed to make a point. And that seems to be, why do we have the laws on the books if they're redundant? The answer seems to be, "because the laws are screwed up" or "so things are up to the individual officer".
Neither is an optimal situation, but you're right; we used to run so hard there was NO keeping up a legal log, so that's why the legal one lived in the toolbox.
But now you have to consider: if a guy can't even keep up his LEGAL log, he dang sure isn't ambitious enough to keep up his OTHER one! -

Around here, we DO have to worry about the guys riding the lawn mowers. On the Natchez Trace
Their duties include, mowing the grass from time to time.
Admittedly, they do use Park Services for this. But you occasionally get an enforcement officer out there too. It makes for one hilarious traffic stop.
I don't know of anyone who has been written a ticket by an officer on a tractor/lawn mower. But I do know a couple that got their ### chewed out, after being flagged down. Sorry...no lights on the mowers. -
Well, what can I say? It's MS and the Natchez Trace LOL
Now I suppose there will be another post asking what is the Natchez Trace. -
Harley,
It's not an exception for doing a log book. It just says we will let you catch it up. You are already in violation of 395.8 (f)(1)-Log book not current to your last change of duty status. Yes, you would probably at least receive a citation for that. Now if you we missing today, yesterday and any portion of the day before that, you would be placed OUT OF SERVICE for 10 hours. The exception you are referring to, gives you the opportunity to catch your log up, but it's still a violation. -
