There is NO FEDERAL law regulating (outlawing) the carry of a firearm in a CMV.

Isn't it just a wee bit easier to follow the rules and be "current" at all times???

Well, the man's allowed to make a point. And that seems to be, why do we have the laws on the books if they're redundant? The answer seems to be, "because the laws are screwed up" or "so things are up to the individual officer".
Neither is an optimal situation, but you're right; we used to run so hard there was NO keeping up a legal log, so that's why the legal one lived in the toolbox.
But now you have to consider: if a guy can't even keep up his LEGAL log, he dang sure isn't ambitious enough to keep up his OTHER one!

I don't suppose I should lower myself to suggest that driving a mower cutting weeds alongside the road for a commonwealth and what we did as federal agents, rules compliance & enforcement, are not even closely related, but I also suppose I just did.

    Well now wait a minute....

Around here, we DO have to worry about the guys riding the lawn mowers. On the Natchez Trace :D

Their duties include, mowing the grass from time to time.

Admittedly, they do use Park Services for this. But you occasionally get an enforcement officer out there too. It makes for one hilarious traffic stop.

I don't know of anyone who has been written a ticket by an officer on a tractor/lawn mower. But I do know a couple that got their ### chewed out, after being flagged down. Sorry...no lights on the mowers.

Well, what can I say? It's MS and the Natchez Trace LOL :biggrin_25525:
Now I suppose there will be another post asking what is the Natchez Trace.

    Harley,

It's not an exception for doing a log book. It just says we will let you catch it up. You are already in violation of 395.8 (f)(1)-Log book not current to your last change of duty status. Yes, you would probably at least receive a citation for that. Now if you we missing today, yesterday and any portion of the day before that, you would be placed OUT OF SERVICE for 10 hours. The exception you are referring to, gives you the opportunity to catch your log up, but it's still a violation.

well Dance, I take it that you have never seen a Troop, up in a cherry picker with a laser. I have used cherry pickers and the large tractor's the State uses to mow the medians. Sit up there and call ahead a description of the vehicle and the speed.

You can still get the ticket for not being current, but if you can show you have hours available to drive in your log book it may keep you from being placed out of service. Quite the opposite of what I read here, I have had CHP had me my book back and tell me get it current, then let me off with a warning. Your attitude when the cop walks up has a lot to do with what ever is comong next.

    dieselbear and otherhalftw Thank this.
