Pepper Spray, except in California, Jersey, and New York (provided that they see it). Also, I am unable to find a Federal Law prohibiting the carrying of firearms in commercial vehicles. Thanks to Roadkill 439342 for making me actually look! However, it would be best to have a Concealed Carry Permit for the state that you are in if you are caught with one.

If you frequently transport to military bases, be aware that things are MUCH different there; AND vary from base to base. I know that Dover AFB has called local authorities on drivers who had a firearm in their truck, but did NOT have a valid concealed carry permit. For those who did, they checked (stored) the weapon until you left. Parris Island Marine Base doesn't even look. In some states (ie. McGuire AFB in Jersey), there basically is NO right-to-carry, so good luck.

    Tater,

Is that the Valentine radar detector. If so, I know I've plucked quite a few of them with my VG2. Driver's cuss me everytime. "It's undetectable." "Uh..huh.. I knew you had it. Wonder how I did that.":biggrin_2554:

Ive heard more then a few make that claim, never had the pleasure personally :biggrin_25525:
I run I-81 alot, drive right by a LEO thats generally 50-80' away and never had an issue with VG2.
Some days their thick, one every 2-5 miles. One would think 1/30-40 would
pick something up on their VG2 if in fact the V1's leaked (could be detected) ?

As long as you're bobtail, and usually an O/O, how about "personal conveyance"..log has you off duty, Line 1?

Also, if company allows it, or under own authority, with an MT trailer, does that not fall under the "unladen" rule?

As far as bobtail...I thought that was why we paid for, and carry "bobtail insurance" in case of incident when bobtailing.

The information in this post is for information purposes only. You should check with the laws of your state and consult with a law enforcement officer before carrying a firearm in a CMV.
I am a former law enforcemnt (LE) officer from Indiana and have been a truckdriver off/on for 30 years:
The only CV a firearm is illegal, is on a commerical aircraft unless you are federal air marshall or flightdeck officer. Even law enforcment traveling with a prisoner have to check thier firearm 'unless' it is cleard with the captian of the aircraft.

You can carry any legal handgun in a CMV (truck) AS LONG AS: you are a licensed in the state you are physically in OR the state you are licensed in has resporisty (a legal agreement) with your home state that will allow you to carry it. It is still legal to carry a firearm even if you company prohibits is, but get caught and it could mean your job.
ALWAYS check the state you are in! ALWAYS notify ANY LE officer if you are stopped that you have a loaded firearm when they make thier first contact with you. Don't unhook your seatbelt or even reach for your wallet until you have notified the officer. He will probobly ask where it is and if it is loaded. They don't like surprises!

Legal length long guns are a gray area. I know of drivers that carryied 870 Remingtons behind the drivers seat for years and never had a problem. Back in the 70's I know of some meat haulers that had a co-driver sitting in the front seat holding a shotgun as they made thier way into Long Island. I'd say just don't be standing in the parking lot at T/A shown it off to your buddies cause someone will call the law...

Some drivers carry pepper spray or taser. Some states in the US it is illegal to carry either.
If you go to Canada, they don't even like pepper spray and they will take it away. AND they will and have searched I and my wifes truck before.

If you want some type of protection and you dont think you could hit the broad side of a barn with your hammer...get a can of wasp or hornet sparay. It just as almost as effective as pepper spray, has a concentrated steam and will burn the crap out of the eyes of the person unlucky enough to be on the other end. Its cheap, take it to any state and even Canada.

If you have a conceraled carry permit and your not sure if you are legal in another state, go to the NRA website for a listing of resposity agreements among states.

Biggest thing is just to be aware of your surroundings. If you don't have to walk a 1/2 mi across a dark parking lot, don't do it. If you get a bad feeling, trust your instincts, they are usually right. If you have to walk across a lot, get on the radio and ask if anybody else is walking in and go as a group. Yea some smarta** will run his mouth but its only because he's to chicken ##### to do what your doing.
I don't let my wife go anywhere without me after dark. No rest area, no parking lot...nothing. She is very atrractive and petite and would be an easy target. I will go with her to the womans restroom door and have her check to make sure there is no one else and I will wait by the door.

Cops can't be everywhere and we couldn't afford to pay to have enough so we have to protect ourselves and the ones we love.

I hope this helps answer any questions

Because it gives a driver a chance if he just forgot to start todays log. If he didn't have any logs from the past 7 days he is simply put to bed for 10 after the inspectors writes a few tickets...
