Yeah, I should've clarified. I found it useless because of how you get a lack of quality sleep in that bouncing truck and the odd hours. Yes, having an experienced driver in the bunk is great and reassuring but I don't think I'd trade quality sleep in a stopped truck for that.

I think 40,000 miles is very excessive just because for me I didnt truely start learning until I was in the truck by myself. My training was 68 days with weekends at home. Cake

Funny thing is you learn more in 2 weeks alone than ever with a trainer

That depends on the quality of training. Which, is very poor at most places. But I'm sure there has got to be at least one good training program out there.

After 4 months or 40,000-miles you won't know near as much as you might think.

Spyder said it best. My trainer was nice and safe but really wanted the better pay. He did all city driving etc... Learned way more alone by trial by fire

A lot can be said for just getting out there and doing it by yourself. This is actually the way I would prefer to do it. A lot of the better trainers will leave their trainees their phone numbers so they can call if they hit a hard spot. While I am not a trainer I have had new drivers I have gave my number to call me on my cell and ask for advice on how to handle a situation. In fact the last call I got was from a guy that was going through a level 1 inspection in Maryland. He was very upset but I was able to calm him down and he told me later he got a clean inspection and I think $25 for it. Contrary to my previous posts I am not in favor of forced teams, I just think if you are forced to go through this you need to make the best of it and treat it as a plus not a negative and just do it.

    Not JP or Prime.
But I still talk to my trainer (6+ years later) we became pretty good friends actually.

I totally agree. When I was there the last 2 years the drill was 6 months or 60,000 miles. I wasn't willing to train there, too much time cooped up with a stranger, but I did do a refresher for 4 weeks with a well-experienced driver. You can be assured that a JPT truck is being driven by a qualified driver, and need have no qualms about following, passing or parking next to one. Good company, great people. I would go back in a minute if they would have me.
