i see mention of joining a 'gym'.... how realistic is this idea? Being a new guy and not having experience on the road, will there be time for this? Will it be money well spent or wasted? If it can work, what is the best place to join? Not intending by any means to criticize, just trying to gather as much info as I can to make the best educated decision.

I can't see gym membership as being feasible. while driving OTR. Going to whatever gym is available when you have time and paying a drop in fee is probably more realistic. But then you have to be able to get there. How will that happen? It seems more feasible to just do basic calisthenics in/ outside of the truck.
I looked up that Convict Conditioning on You Tube last night and realized I can do some of it right in the cab. It's -25 Celsius again this morning and have no interest in going outside unnecessarily. Tried the squats and wall push ups this morning. Worked well.WotansVolkman Thanks this. -
Most that do that use large chains such as Planet Fitness. To me it's not feasible unless it's on dedicated route, i would adapt what you might be doing now to being able to happen in a small space like a truck. If you're not doing some exercise, then start with walking. Walking is easy to accomidate on the road, and there are a lot of videos about working out in truck

I just bought "Convict Conditioning" on Kindle for iPhone. $10 Canadian. Lots of good reviews. Worth a shot.
I liked the progressive instruction without assuming that I already knew something about working out. Some might find that offensive, I find it helpful.WotansVolkman Thanks this. -
I keep a 30 lbs dumbbell and a 39 inch 1x12 in the truck. 1x12 is for pushups on the bed. It keeps your hands from sinking into matress.

Once it gets warm I will try to make a video of my workouts on the road. Basically pull ups, push ups and rubber bands. Whole body workout in 20-30 min

I have been jumping around this forum looking for practical ideas. Unfortunately most threads seem to loose steam rather quickly in reference to health and fitness. I am curious if you found anything that works well for you?
Personally, being ex military; I love body weight exercises. As mentioned in other posts (Convict Conditioning) is a good example and so is (You Are Your Own Gym). These are great cardio and muscle building routines you can do in small spaces with minimum equipment.
Two problems I am having is not being able to do pull ups and parallel dips. Does anybody have suggestions for building or buying a pull up bar to put inside a KW? And has anyone found away to do parallels?Last edited: May 22, 2016
