Sorry folks for leaving you hanging,it was bad real bad they fired me. They broke quite a few laws and maybe I could have gotten a lawyer but I didn't have much proof and I didn't want to get my driver manager in trouble,I really liked her and she is a super single mom.
If I had any advice for drivers looking to go to Schneider I'd have to say watch out.the law means nothing for this company. -
Come on man thats dissappointing that you didnt do anything man. Whoever made you drive that truck should be hung!!! Dont let people take advantage of you like that man. They hurt you financially and mentally.

Good thread, and Condo thanks for all the information you posted. I have a CO detector and a smoke detector in my home. OTR the truck is your home so every truck should have one. They are cheap to buy. I drive local and slipseat and there have been trucks with an exhaust leak. Headache, burning eyes and my throat hurt was the signs I got that something was not right. I am going to bring my detector to work and sit it on the pass. seat. I am in the truck for 12 hours. Will this work? My company is great about fixing it or it is put out of service. My concern is the leak going undetected by me, the driver.

The retaliation violates the employee protection provisions of the Surface Transportation Assistance Act, 49 U.S.C. Sec. 31105. This law provides legal remedies for drivers who refuse to operate commercial vehicles in violation of a commercial vehicle safety regulation. The remedies include reinstatement, back pay, compensatory damages, punitive damages and recovery of attorney fees and legal expenses. It is a good law and it works. Chances are Schneider documented this drivers protected work refusal. The driver has 180 days after the retaliaton to file a claim with OSHA under the STAA.

Hey, did it smell like charcoal lighter fluid? I'm in a truck right now and it comes and goes but it's really bad when we first start moving then goes away after about thirty miles. I'm new to long haul and never encountered anything like this. Being a natural hypochondriac I'm wondering if I should be worried?

Just saw your post - Southern NH - you could try Genesis Transportation in Portsmouth. I worked for them in the past and they were not too bad. If company dr. they pay a percentage of the load but if you are a hard worker you can make a fair living. Company health insurance plan is good compared to others. TM is grumpy but if you do your job you will get along fine. Flatbed with some tarping. Loads out of USG and National are tarped for you with mostly wallboard, paper and lumber. I think their number is (603) 436-1855. It could have changed but this is what I have in my phone. I understand they pull out of Devens, MA now (Ayer). I left after 2 years as I moved south! Would go back if I moved back to NH.
