Existing Coax cable in volvo/ adding satellite tv

    I have a 2012 volvo 780. It came from the market transport fleet. It had qualcom at some point. My question is, there is a coax cable coming out at the tv shelf in the truck. I cant find where it goes to antenna. Did the qualcom antenna also double as a tv antenna or provide sat tv through the qualcom satellite?

    In the loom that runs to the roof there is 2 cables, 1 looks about the same size as coax. However the is only 1 plug. Im hoping I can just cut the connector and crimp on a coax connector and be good.

    I can't say without looking at it myself, but you will need rg6 coax for satellite. My suggestion would be if its not suited go ahead and crimp the new connector anyway, and use it as a fish line... (You are out pennies on connectors) and overall it shouldn't cost over $20 to replace everything.

    Cool, thanks for the reply. I figured on running one but when I found the one when I was installing the tv I almost went mad ttying to find out where it terminates. My first volvo, i didnt know if they came pre wired from the factory or what. I HATE removing trim and everything else for subs, amps , and decks. Hopefully if the existing one doesnt work the fish method will..

    In mine the one cable is for the satellite radio, it sits up in the headliner.

    I'm rethinking, and if its not my imagination... I do believe I've read that the TV coax ultimately uses the twin mirror antennas. If that is true this will definitely not work for satellite.

    Which is weird because ota is all digital now. They need to update the tv cabinet too. I dont even know if you can still buy a tv that is not flat screen and retrofitting a mount was a little bit of a pain in the ###

    There is a TV antenna built into the fiberglass roof of Volvo Sleeper models.

    On VNL770's the cable comes out of the compartment behind the passenger seat.

    I used to install Direct TV.....Run a dedicated line to the dish. Any splices or incorrect type cable like RG-59 that the trucks TV antenna uses will cause problems such as missing channels or no signal at all.
    Fish a new RG-6 line up there and good to go.

    Also depending on the year of the truck the CB,Stereo and TV antenna all go through a diplexor.
    That would not be good for a sat signal.
