What is you business exit strategy?

Mine was to grow to around 100 trucks and sell out but not sure if that is what I want to do now I am running 26 trucks right now with about 75% direct contract freight and 25% broker freight. I could probably be at 100 in few years if I wanted but I now feel like that is going to be to much of a headache.

Everyone is different. I am still young, only 25, I have my first truck, trailer, authority. I sometimes think about the same "exit strategy." Sometimes I think of building a small company, as you have, and sell the whole thing. And then it hits me, if I sell the whole thing when I'm, say, 40 or whatever age, at that time, will I still want to work? It will depend on what is more important in that regard. Now sometimes I think, maybe I could sell the whole thing and get into another business, whatever it may be. For now, I am happy with the way things are going. It is very different for each person's situation.

    when I become worm food.

Just plan on having the one truck and me. Pay it off and start saving money.

When I decide I am done, I am done.

Nothing wrong with that you only have one person to worry about and you have control.

I spent the last 20+ years scratching out something.

Only to see it all go away 6 years ago.
Working for others, dealing with corporate BS, I finally had enough.

Looking at survey equipment for $45-50k, that would be outdated the day I brought it home, the same corporate BS in bidding jobs.

At least freight will always have to move.

I wish it would have worked out. I bid out for 3 jobs last winter and the bigger companies in the area WAY underbid me.

I was a recent grad from a Land Survey / Civil Eng AA program and I was competing with lots of folks with 8-12 years experience who were out of work too. The recession of 2008-9 has hit a lot of industries HARD.

best "recommendation" I can give you.

Find a company with as much freedom as you can.

    It's worth it.
