Depending on the loads you are running and where OTR doesn't seem like work at all. Set the cruise control, line up some good music then kickback and relax for 6-7 hours. Pull over for a 30 minute "break" from all that lounging, then head back out for another 3-4 hours driving. Find a truckstop to park for the 10 hour break, then repeat the above as often as necessary.

Thats a coast to coast 3-4 day trip.

The experience difference will be knowing how to work your logs to maximize efficiency. When to do a split sleeper, knowing the parts of the coutry where it would be better to shut down early and hit the high traffic areas at night. Being able to switch between day and night driving as the loads dictate. Living on the road in a truck for weeks or months at a time, basically how to tolerate that lifestyle change.

OTR companies have no use for a driver that cant put in a solid 11hrs of driving because they get tired or bored after 8. A driver that gets homesick after a week and puts in for hometime every two weeks is not only inefficient, they cost the company money if they dont have regular freight going by that driver's house.

The "training" isnt to teach you how to drive a truck. Its more for the company to see if you can do what they require of you. A driver with 20 years LTL experience is useless to them if that driver cant sit behind the wheel for longer than 2 hours or is scared of mountains or snow.
