Is the company you were "canned" from based in Little Rock and have burgundy shakers? If so, take your buttright back there and buy one of their used trucks off of the lot next door. Say what you want about them but, they are smart. Those trucks are the best spec'd trucks on the road in a large fleet flatbed operation in regards to low operating costs. I didn't say they were the best trucks period, just that they are spec'd for great fuel mileage and low maintenance costs. If you really want to make maximum profit on a limited budget, you need to check your ego at the door and run your business with your head and not your heart. My opinion only of course.

ezzzz....killer....I have no ego problem with them, matter of fact the dealer asked why I'm still wearing their hat....I said "I work hard and am not ashamed, and they taught me allot." You are miss-reading my stating the facts for my having a problem with them....Read some of my other posts b4 you jump to conclusions....and I was checking on their trucks b4 they canned me, the guy never called like he said they would, and all they show on their web site is an ic (tell by the unit number)....you shouldn't jump to conclusions....and notice i didn't bring up their name...if i wanted to bad mouth them, i would....i have no problem with the company and a thankful fo the job when i needed one and the experience....but was ready to move on b4 i left.

I never mentioned anywhere in my post about the issues between you and the company. After re-reading my post, I could see where it could be construed that I made implications in that direction. Honestly though, I wasn't.

The "ego" comment was to imply that you were thinking with your heart and not your head in regards to what truck to buy. Every truck that you listed as interested in is a Pete or Classic. Now if that is what your heart is set on, and you can afford the extra operating expenses, then knock yourself out.

All of the other posters are right in the fact that the frieght rates are depressed right now. I agree wholeheartedly with them. I really don't want to insult your intelligence, but at the same time, I am trying to make this post in a more basic and clear tone.

Simple accounting defines profit as income minus expenses. If the income is currently low(frieght rates) and you have very little leverage(due to low frieght volumes)to negotiate higher rates, then the only way to effect profits in a positive manner is to lower expenses. This is where the "think with your head and not your heart comes in".

I'm really not the enemy, and I wasn't inplying what you thought I was. I hope this post clears that up. I will try to be more clear in the future.

And BTW, now that you no longer are employed there, you are just Joe Schmo the truck buyer and can go on there lot and purchase a truck same as I could. You just wont be leasing it on to them. Oh, and in case you were wondering, NO I don't work for them and never have. Heck, I'm not even a flatbedder.LOL

By the way, I did happen across one of your posts in another thread a few days ago. That is how I deduced who you were working for.

I appoligize for misinterpreting your post (which now makes me wonder if I'm not actually parionoid that people will take me as another disgruntled company driver)....basic economics is understood....I've sat thru enuff college coursework for that (tho it doesn't show)....as far as the company I've made many posts....but tried to remain impartial and factual in fair warning to anyone it may concern to circumstances they may encounter. -Anyway, tis' the downside of communication via written word to not be able to enterprit the others emphasis or emotion. ie.; "my bad."

You would be surprised how much dealers will mark up their used trucks, some as much as $35k if they can. Example, i was looking for trucks they were only giving me 26k for my 03 W9L but they sell for 55-60, another was giving me 34k on a trade. Usually you can get them down about $5-7k, you will be lucky if they go down more.

A 06 379EXHD with a 550 kitty for 65k sounds about right, i think you could get it for 60-61k.

Oh dont listen to eskimo, he doesent know how to drive the large rides :biggrin_25525: Just kidding Eskimo.... Buy what you like, id be misrable driving a vulva or shaker, i need my hood and yellow engine to be happy! I got 6.6-7.4mpg running local and im sure runnin out west ill get 6+mpg with my new engine set up. With 5 feet in between the trailer.
