Funny you say that. My current company of 3 years is a local developer. He has dump trucks, tractors with every type of trailer you could think of and roll offs. My issue is that ive become "the roll off guy.". Seems like most guys they hire for roll off don't stick around too long. But they are constantly guys coming to inquire about tractor trailer work. Even most of the dump truck drivers are actually experienced tractor trailer drivers but they basically come here looking for work and get stuck on a dump truck with the promise that "one of these days we're gonna put you on a tractor.". Kinda makes me feel that if I went and got my class A they would still want me on the roll off truck. Even the two other roll off drivers here happen to have their class A lol.

It does not matter if you had a class A or not for dumptruck work, actually some of the trailers we put on them need air braking and so on. That would be a form of class A driving. A "Lite" if I dare say so.

I enjoyed our dump truck work and farm time putting together hay and herding cattle where necessary. It was made for wonderful outdoor days where millions are trapped in cubicles in the citys (Plural)

What I did not appreciate was certain employers trying to tell me that Class A is overqualified for mixer work in the north. Here in the south, they don't care about stupid stuff like overqualified. they put you into the cab and tell you get going. Ive talked about one employer in particular before whose yard full of mack and lowboys resting in the rain sat mute testament to the need for that class A while he tried to tell me it aint.

Class B is wonderful. But sometimes it's good just to have the A and be done with it.

See if your company has one of the roll offs that pull a trailer, use that to get your Class A
