I got on with New Century doing local due to alot of guys retiring. Some had 30+ year working for Harry, who owned Jevic before YRC bought Jevic out and started New Century.

Unless you have actually done, you really have no clue. When I just started here I was all about that, if you go reread my posts.
Now I work at a different barn with a longer run and it is absolutely horrible. Try driving 3-4 hrs, then sitting on a forklift for 5-6 hrs trying to dodge 30-50 other forklifts, dealing with the heat, trying not to run over people walking on the dock, avoiding running over freight, hopping up on beams, moving heavy crap by hand. Depending on the breakbulk you run to, you must move a certain amount of bills per hour, plus drop beams, find dunnage, straps, wait for some other ####### to quit jerking off in a trailer. And then sometimes because guys just want to get their bill count up, they floorload the ####, then a supervisor makes you rework an entire trailer, while in the middle of your breaker. Then try to drive home and not roll your set. Tell me about it big guy. That #### is no fun.
Hahaha that's great, sounds just like Fedex Freight, same stuff.Last edited: Oct 10, 2012

I've seen a few people put Con-way last and I'd agree. Our drivers at my terminal with less than about 2 years spend most of their time on the dock.
It's a pretty good job once you've been here for a while but I think It's worse now for newer drivers than it was when I started. They used to not hire as much which could get old when it was real busy, but anymore there are just too many drivers for the amount of miles we have. -
There are drivers that left my outfit for Fedex freight. They left a Full time job with plenty of work to go to Fedex and work 2 days a week and starve. Needless to say, they are no longer with Fedex. I know plenty of Conway drivers in my area and yea they do some dock work in the AM before peddling but i would still put Conway above Fedex any day. -
Yeah it's a toss up for FedEx and Conway. I don't trust either of them. LTL is just that way though, you never know if your going to have a job tomorrow. YRC is slow now. I wonder how the others are doing.

I worked both FedEx and con-way. I don't trust either
I just got laid off from YRC as of today... Not very happy as they have no right to lay us all off as we are all working and they are giving freight to cartidge -
OBTW, as far as "trusting" a company is concerned? Nah, don't do it. Companies are all about the bottom line, and they all want to have "LOYALTY" from their employees. But they will seldom reciprocate that employee loyalty. -
Its the "Yellow" way of doing business !
What barn do you work out of ? -
Sorry about the layoff, Terrible thing to do to drivers this time of the year.jakebrake12 Thanks this. -
@Big Don as part of our contract since I am in the union(other guys arent) they HAVE to bring me back, and if they do send out freight to cartidge then I can file grievance and will be paid for the day. The shop stewards are looking out for that plus the other employees will say something. Since the company made some good money the past few months every small terminal is laying off guys. Im looking to transfer to the one up north for the time being
@Cab Lizzard I am out of 150, its right out of NYC or the Bronx
@Marksteven I know... But hoping to transfer or see if they got work coming up as they fired somebody yesterdayBig Don Thanks this.
