I am not convinced any real formal "training" per se is required to have a safe and successful open deck career.......I have been doing it since '92 and had my childhood/young adult experience with family and older hands as my only training.
Hang out with the flatbed crowd at a truckstop. Explain you are trying to learn. Ask questions. Take photos of the way different loads are tied down. Build knowledge. Don't be afraid to take a slightly different path than the herd.cnsper, Lepton1 and Pure.Genius Thank this. -

I learned in 2 days riding around with another driver...in 2001 I think. We saw a lot in 2 days! (lot of local coils, sheets, bars, pallets, etc... The specialized stuff is just a spin off of that really.....so not a lot to it IMHO....secure whatever the load and transport safely!
