Old thread, but for beginner flatbed with no experience, Maverick is the best for training imo. They are where I stated 4 years ago. I make better money where I am now.

Britton Transport. Good company to work for. I've been here 5 happy years. I know you'll have a good trainer, who will do the best he can to make sure you get a great start in flatbed. I know that because I am our only flatbed trainer. After training, you'll start at .42 cpm. Health insurance at no cost to driver, including dentall and optical. Extra pay for Canada miles, oversize pay, fuel, safety, mileage, layover, breakdown, stops, holiday, etc.

Well, now that Lazarus had a double capacino and this thread is back...

... I agree that most of flatbed securement is common sense and asking questions. I jumped into flatbed after a few years pulling van. The orientation at the company I work for was an hour of paperwork and policy. After that two unpaid ride alongs with an experienced driver.

I will admit I had a lot of help from other drivers and office staff my first few loads, sending pictures by text message. I even got 86ed (banned) from a customer for being too slow to secure a load, but got back in their good graces.

Get in there and do it. There are lots of YouTube videos on tarping or the other finer points of securement. The flatbed forum here is a tremendous source of knowledge, especially the "Tips and Tricks" thread.
