That's what I'm saying... But one poster did have a point, water getting into your diff's and the trailer axles sort of makes it not really worth it.

If this truck driver was your employee trying to meet a tight deadline that you may have given to him, would you have fired him for trying to meet that tight deadline?

This truck driver may have actually thought that he was doing the right thing by showing this kind of initiative.

Depending upon the company that the truck driver was working for, this could have been a darned if you do or darned if you don't situation.

An experienced driver would be smart enough to have switched over to a ltl company over the years. I'm going with inexperienced and bad decision but glad he made it.

If an experienced driver did not switch over to an LTL company over the years, it could very well be that the driver thought he was building up both longevity and seniority. This forum frequently states that job hopping is quite frequently frowned upon by many companies.

If you were a hiring manager and this particular employee had 10 plus years of experience with the same company came to you looking for a job, would you not respect the fact that he has not been a job hopper for the last 10 years of his life?

I can see the extra tall air intake and tall fuel vent on every submersible truck in this video, and I'm sure all the seals are designed for this terrain, BUT the big red Volvo was not. If he worked for me I would let him keep his job long enough to reimburse me for the repairs, then I would probably fire him. If he is making these kind of decisions at 7-8 mph.(plenty of time to think about it) what kind of snap decisions is he going to make at 65-70 when a lot more lives depend on it?

If this driver ( and mje...I use that term LOOSELY )were to be my employee ..yes I would have fired him...immediately. In this sort of situation...I would expect him to call and tell me what he was planning to try with My equipment...if I gave him a tight deadline then I still expect him to act and drive in a , SAFE , and professional manner. This bone-head maneuver is neither. I would expect him to put his own SAFETY 1st...then the equipment and the load last....in that order. There is absolutely no load ever loaded that is worth dying over. More-over you don't make ANY decision like that while operating another man's equipment...without 1st checking in with him....AND then if he tells you to chance it ...your answer MUST BE...I DON'T HAVE A CLUE HOW DEEP THAT WATER IS , OR "IF" THERE IS STILL A ROAD UNDER IT.

One other thing......" Darned if you do , darned if you don't " needn't apply here....Even if you are fired for refusing to attempt something so dangerous....you'll be alive to find a real job after they fire you....like I said.....you NEVER EVER compromise YOUR SAFETY , for a load....NEVER.

If this idiot came to me looking for employment with this kind of critical decision making in his past....I don't care if he was on his last job for a hundred years....WHEN THE TRUTH IS STARING YOU IN THE FACE YOU DON'T TEMPT FATE.

I wouldn't fire the guy. I would make him pay for the fluid changes. But not fire the guy. But that's just me. Everyone's got to "live a little" now and then. Take a cool chance every once in a while.. I see no harm in what the guy did.
