expired cab card

Is an expired cab card an out-of-service violation? Is it grounds for impounding a vehicle.

Virginia DMV is lagging behind in IRP renewals. I just heard about a guy who's been running for three months without a cab card because if he parks the truck to wait for the DMV to come through, he'll lose his truck.

My cab card expires soon. I know I'm not going to get a renewal in time. If it was only a matter of a summons, I'd risk it.

Anybody know what the penalty is?

 

Thanks for the reply, Ridgeline. I did apply for the renewal almost a month ago. I've been waiting. I'm having a permitting agency do the renewal for me, and they tell me that they are having a terrible time with the DMV.

I'm sure I can get proof that I applied for the renewal. I hadn't thought of that. That should help if I get stopped and asked for my cab card.

 

Thanks, brian, but the memo says credentials that expire on or before July 31. According to the way it reads, it leaves me out. My cab card expires on September 30.
