The yearly permit for oregon is available instantly online and costs $8. You need the account number and password. this isn't something they should drag their feet on. You have to either have this yearly permit or have purchased a trip permit before you enter the state. They will write you a $400 ticket if you don't have one if they ask when you cross the scale.

I have a letter granting me permission to purchase an Oregon permit under our company account. Does that allow me to purchase the permit at a scale or do I have to do it on line?

I would purchase it in advance, they can fax it to where ever you are. I got hit in OR with an expired permit and it was a $400 fine, no option to buy a permit at that time at the coop

Have to have permit IN HAND before you get to scale house. Can have either already bought a trip permit or have the yearly one. If you are going there with any regularity it is much easier to get the yearly permit and then pay your traveled miles either monthly or quarterly ... I think it costs less too.

If you go onto www.oregontruckingonline.com and if you have the login account number and password you can get the yearly one. Have to pay with a credit card. I don't think you can do single trip permits through this website, probably have to call and tell them your route you are going to be taking and all that so they can calculate how many miles you are going to do then come up with an extravagant number to charge ...

I have just let my dispatch buy it and fax it to me. Seems the letter is kind of pointless then since I have no way of printing it out in the field.

I drove for the federal government, but was driving a new Ryder at the time, since my tractor was in for repairs. The scales in Ct on rt 95 south were open, I pulled in,got the red light and 2 staties came out to my truck.

Sp " Where is your IFTA sticker ?"
    Me "Ryder didn't have any"
Sp " You're still suppose to have one"
Me "The truck is rented by the federal government"
Sp " What does that have to do with anything ?"
Me " The federal government doesn't pay tax on fuel "
One cop turns to the other and says " I"M not getting in the middle of this !" looks at me and says " On your way !"

At one time you could purchase a trip permit at the Oregon port of entry. The catch (last time I did that) was there was not always someone who could sell you the trip permit. I nearly got a ticket many years ago but was able to call the state and have one faxed to me at a nearby truck stop. It was a real hassle. I don't know if you can still buy one at the port of entry, but I would call the state and ask or just buy one directly from the state and have it faxed to you. If you can't receive faxes on the road, you can always have them fax it to a truck stop. The last several trips I made to Oregon I just bought them online or called and had them fax to me using a credit card.
