Not to talk you out of trucking but as an airplane mechanic I would think you could find work doing that if you wanted. Boeing is just up the road from me and I think they are hiring. It's a far cry from Texas but I have room if you want till you get on your feet. Don't come here if you want a CDL though. I'm moving back to Kentucky to get mine.
On another note, Thank you for your service. I see lots of military aircraft in the air since I live near Lewis-McChord. They do some cool open house stuff and I'm always amazed by the dedication. -
check with the state on the requirements to get your license renewed. Your DD214 or a copy of your discharge papers may be all that's needed to renew it.
Good luck with the transition. -
It's harder to get a job in the aerospace industry than most people think. A lot of jobs out there are union and just breaking into them is tough. Plus, I've got over 10 years of what would be considered management experience, and a lot of folks out there with less feel like they'd be hiring someone that's more qualified than they are, so they don't want to hire vets. It can be tough to transition to the civilian marketplace. Right now I have about a year and a half to make up my mind, so I'm still exploring my options.
Thanks for your thanks.

I'd do everything I could to stay in. That would include crossing over to another branch of the service. It's not much different from service to service except one might be moving while you're working!

I understand what you're saying, but it's a done deal. The career is over, and I've been in too long to switch services.
