Driver, everybody and their dog knows this. It is not a secret. DOT loves it cause brings them revenue, shippers/receivers and companies love it cause it is cheap and fast delivery...and the drivers are getting screwed over by all of them. It's a vicious circle.
Rick, you wanna be a Don Kichote, go right ahead. Don't tell me that the driver is screwing himself, the driver is only playing the game as best he can within the rules and tools available to him. What, u suggest everybody starts being all legal now-ha! it is utopia nothing else. You think you can find people that are going to gamble with their possessions, families etc. to force the industry to change? Again I don't think so. It has been tried before(fuel strikes) and the last that was suppesed to happen this year, huge success. No my friend, the changes have to come from the top otherwise it's not going to happen. Sure it would be nic eto run legal and live a comfortable life, but in order to do that the politicians have to make a very unpopular decision, make the right laws and regulations and face public's outcry with the higher prices that the rules would bring on everything-and somehow I don't think they r willing to do that. So the circle ends here. O yeah and if you wanna quit trucking and find a job that will feed you and your familiy, go right ahead...ah but wait, there is no jobs, they r all going down south or to Asia-complements of our politicians. No in my opinion, the driver is the least to blame for this mess. We do what we can with what we have, that's all.
oh and one more thing. If it did ever happen that all US/Canadian drivers would try to force their pints, then there are laws that allow for the companies to bring drivers from all over the world-again thanks to our great politicias. Why do you think they passed these laws??? in the first place.
Typical reaction mention running by the book and you bite. You can only blame the people doing the job for less. If you go to a store to buy something and you say na I aint gonna buy it at that price what do you do????? you haggel on the price. if the sale's man bends and gives you a better price you win .... if he dont what do you do,,,, your turn round and walk away that is a fact. This is a fact the world over, blaming the gove and brokers is pure B%$$S^&T and if you really sat back and LOOKED yes LOOKED at what drivers are doing there you will find the truth. OPEN YOUR EYES YOUR KILLING YOUR OWN INDUSTRY BY BREAKING THE LAW If you are willing to run bent you will always run bent because thats the only way you can do it It's like drugs "Easy to start taking #### hard to GET OFF THEM" oh by the way its NICK not RICK and please dont be offened Its my view on the state of the industry Have a good day one last thing be honest with this thread If you felt that drivers stood side by side and only took the work if it was a fair rate and you could do the work by the book and not go like a bat out of hell just to park up for a few hrs extra would you think that would be better than braking the law....
Nick(sorry), with the Patriot acts and such being implemented, driver don' t have a leg to stand on. Try to understand that the laws are stucked against the drivers. You must remember what happened in California in 2004. Drivers stood up for their rights and next thing you know here come the troopers etc. and threw'em in the clink. Well so much for that. Thank your politicians for that because they r responsible for passing such laws. Drivers r at the bottom as I call us, we r expendible. If we don't drive, then our goverments bring people from iutside(all over the world) to drive for us. It isn't in our hands any more. It would be so easy to pass a law for electronic logs...why do you think they are not passing it??? They would rather put a smoke and a mirror show for the public...it is much cheaper for them in the long run. Bye
Exactly what a broker will do when you stand your ground....turn around and go to someone else who will haul for less. Probably to our new friends along the 401, the new border line between India and Pakistan (Brampton, ON and Misssissauga, ON). Cheers
Nick2008, I just noticed that you are from UK. Driving a truck in EU and in North America are two different worlds. Believe me, I've done it. When I started driving in Europe in 1986, they gave me a Mercedes and it had electronic on-board recorder. Recorded time, speed, anything relevant to truck and driver. I remember that it was very simple for police to take a look at that and find violations from way back, if they wanted to. That was 22 years ago. Here, in USA and Canada, we still do it with pen and a paper, and with a loose leaf, not numbered log book.... Cheers
I'm sure all kinds of DOT/Diesel bears read this forum. The original poster just gave them a crash course on what to look for in busting a hard working driver.
