No, he hated every moment of it... He was stuck there, he was talking to me on the phone while he was there...He's not one to dump his trailer and go off somewhere, because he's paranoid about safety/stealing.
The most he's every done is walk around the corner to catch a movie
He called his dispatcher to tell them what was going on, and they said they would call target...They then told him they couldn't get through...So hubby tried, and got through to Target in 2 rings.
Extended forced layover-any recourse?

I would not have put up with that. Load refused. Bring it home.
Scott National refused 4 skids from me as they were finished their shift in half hour,,, I brought it home. They were not happy the next day to find they would have to wait a few days for the 4 skids of cigarettesLast edited: Jun 10, 2017
VIDEODROME and oshawasue Thank this. -
Oh well. They'll get over it.
Have to make sure whomever is on the hook for the freight charges will pay the redelivery fee. -
I'm going to play devil's advocate here for a minute. Your hubby missed his appointment. Believe me Target has no concern as to the reason. They have their policy, and it will overule common sense any time. If those pallets had been on a truck that was in a wreck, with the driver killed, they don't care. He missed his appointment.
Welcome to trucking...
Just adds credibility to the folks saying he needs to work for a better outfit. His dispatcher is going to go home at end of shift, and really doesn't give a right rip about a driver sitting for four days.wore out, TripleSix, WildTiger1990 and 1 other person Thank this. -
You would think they owner (or upper management of a big company) would care about a truck sitting for 4 days with no revenue. Either they got paid good money to hold up for 4 days and are basically stiffing the driver, or they are very poorly ran outfit. Either way its not a company i would work for.KANSAS TRANSIT, oshawasue and Jazz1 Thank this.

This is definitely a company failure. When we have a driver going past the first two free hours we're on the phone making sure someone who can make a difference is notified. 4 days?! Not at my company!!
oshawasue Thanks this. -
I ain't unloaded anything, I just lock it down in the employee parking lot entrance and close the curtains.
Bo Hunt and LoneCowboy Thank this. -
That happened to me in the early 90s when I was pulling reefer. Had 2 pallets of cooking oil to be offloaded at the Food Lion Warehouse in Lakeland Fla. Sat there for a couple days and they tell me on Friday that I would have to wait til M0nday. Well, this was back in the days of pay phones and fax machines. That time I was waiting, I lined up my next gig. I drove the truck 500 miles back to the yard and cleaned my truck out. Started the new job Monday morning.
That's the thing about keeping a clean record and good work ethic...even as a company driver, you dont have to take $h#T from no one. If you are starting out with a mega carrier and doing the whole mega circus clown routine, all you have to do is wait until you get issued your own truck. If you can handle your truck without wrecking, you can get another job.sawmill, spyder7723 and LoneCowboy Thank this. -
You will be happy to know that food lion dc was closed down. Its now a winn dixie.
