Smart man. Send me a PM if you decide to go with a truck with Cummins power. I can let you in on what I do. I’ve wrote about it here a bunch of times but don’t feel like digging the posts up. Look up that Encore XT1 warranty through Cummins though. You must be the 2nd owner of the truck, and less then 6 yrs or 600k miles on it. It’s only $4500 for 2 yr 200k and they pay everything.
Extended warranty coverage should it be purchased

Do yourself a favor.
Call around d and price some "normal" type services.

Cummins
Pre emission 60series
Camshaft (common Cummins issue)
With Cummins watch the fuel pump. They can destroy and engine in no time.
Do your homework.

If its not an extended warranty directly from the OEM, don't waste your money. Just my 2 cents.

I'm sitting in a hospital bed with nothing to do but spread my wisdom.
This truck ticks all the boxes.
Pre emission
Detroit
Columbia.
It's the cheapest truck on the road to service and maintain. Parts are EVERYWHERE for them, lots of junkyards with used parts available, reliable 60 series Detroit, and driven correctly it will get great fuel mileage. Your not tied to dealers to get service, LOTS of good shops with 60 series experience so you can spend $75 an hour instead of $140.
MONEY MAKER.

I bought this used from Schneider 2.5 years ago. I paid $50k for it. Lowest cost per mile maintenance of any of my previous 4 trucks except for my first truck... which was a freightliner with a 12.7 Detroit.
Look around and do your homework BEFORE you buy.
I'll go back to torturing the nurses now.....Tug Toy, Jcine14, Rideandrepair and 2 others Thank this. -

Save your money up for a while and then reevaluate buying a truck when you feel your ready in the future.
Best of luck to you. -
Definitely after having serious review as much as I want to be my own boss I really did not want to find myself drowning. Being an O/O is a really deep pond. I realized I wasn't as prepared as I initially convinced myself. In time though once I'm fully in control of securing the prerequisites of success. I will take another dive. I really do appreciate the feedback I gotten from this thread. These companies make it appear a relatively simple transition. Not realizing that the many factors they don't educate company drivers about is definitely a receipe for failing. Thanks your wisdom help me a lot. The time will come soon enough. Be safe out there driver!
