Yeah that’s certainly been my experience too. Aftermarket warranties are a rip off.
The Cummins is OEM obviously and they stand behind it for sure. It’s overhauled two motors and replaced a turbo just off the top of my head over the last few years. It’s $4500 and doesn’t cover a lot of the emissions stuff but I’ve found that if your motor is running correctly to begin with, emissions isn’t that big of a worry anymore. Besides, that’s an under 7 or 8k bill. It’s catastrophic failures that will put you out of business.
On that old of a truck they won’t sell it to you though. 6 yrs 600k is the max they go.
The aftermarket ones cost more and they say they cover more but the headache of waiting for approval or them weaseling out of it is not good. They don’t care about how long your down, but I bet you do.AModelCat Thanks this. -
The TruNorth Warranty is not even close to all inclusive. Last year I bought a 2015 Peterbilt 389 with 350k and a 2016 Peterbilt 389 with 400k and spent 5k on each for the TruNorth Warranty. Since that time I have spent over 30k in engine repairs and they never covered any of it. Including internal engine components. Read the exclusions very very carefully. They only cover what you couldn’t break if you wanted to.

I would look for a truck that had a Apu most its life . The fleet trucks without scare me to death . It's a crap shoot with used stuff .

Just realized this thread is older. Wish I read it back then.
