Perhaps, but do you think for a second, drivers today would even know what a fuse is, for cripes sakes? "Duh, there's hole in my driveline",,,that was a good one,,drivers today can't change a light bulb, not that I'd trust them to, unless you're talking "fusee flares", and I couldn't begin to tell you why THOSE fell out of favor,,,
Pretty sure it’s in the same section saying you gotta carry a fire extinguisher and triangles / flares . a friend of mine bought a new car recently and sent me a pic of the page in the owners manual about fuses that basically said : “ you’re too stupid to change fuses , take the vehicle to your dealer for fuse replacement “
Apparently, they're right. 393.95 of the BS code states," a truck must have a spare fuse for every fuse used in the operation of the vehicle",,in ANY DOT inspection, and I've been through a couple,, I don't ever recall a trooper asking to see my "spare fuses",,
New cars won't have a hood release anymore. There will be a disclaimer, "windshield washer is in the trunk, you have no business under the hood. See dealer",,
Extra fuses, part of a DOT inspection. Always had them onboard. Still do. Never been asked to show them in 30 yrs.
You're probably right. Since you couldn't make it as an o/o then someone else must have wires hanging everywhere because he asked about spare fuses.
My latest one i offered to show him spare fuses when he asked about my extinguisher and triangles, his response was "we dont care about those" which strikes me as pretty dumb, lord willing you use all three as often as each other... which is to say as little as possible
New York and Connecticut do care. they don't care if the truck is 100% circuit breakers, "where's your extra fuses?". In CT it comes after an hour or better of looking for sumthin'; same state that wrote up "no windshield washer fluid'...I figured that driver got smart with the trooper.
Most of our trucks used to have a thick plastic zippered pouch that had hole to put it in the permit binder. Had an assortment of fuses. My truck still has this and it is the first thing the DOT sees when he opens the permit book. Don't think it impresses them too much but in an inspection every little bit helps.
