Oil companies ONLY make about 8% profit, no more than they EVER MADE.
Why don't you target the REAL reason for the high prices.
Failed economic policies, and Legislators who are in bed with the Special Interest Groups/Environmentalists.
We have the technology to produce gas at about $48 to $65 a barrel out of Oil Shale (which we have PLENTY of), yet Congress won't allow us to produce it. Place the lame where it belongs before you shoot yourself in the foot.

I still dont get it either. The cost of getting oil out of the ground hasnt increased that much. Operating costs should be somewhat constant. Unless the oil companies are spending huge amounts in R&D and exploration, it seems that inflated prices on oil would be mostly profit (!?):biggrin_25513:

These idiots have been protesting here in MetroMess for several years. They show up every year for Exxon stockholders meetings and other functions. The news always covers it. They try to make the crowds look massive, but someone always gets a big picture and there may be 25-50 people. Guess they weren't good enough to get hired to travel to G-8 and other BIG events.:biggrin_2559: March on good buddy. Just remember what happened when you guys tried to storm the offices. Lew Starrett Justice Center. aka Dallas County Jail. Why aren't you up in Washington, Austin, or some other Gov. offices. They make about twice as much per gallon as the oil companies with the various taxes. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the prices one bit, but the Gov does nothing for their share. At least the producers are forking out for drilling, tankers, satellite imaging and other high tech ways they find the stuff, helicopters to ferry crews to offshore rigs, etc. What have Pelosi, Reed, McCain, Dodd, and all these other losers brought to the table? Zippo. Why are they entitled to $80 billion of Exxons earnings?
And Exxon needs to work on their image. COE retired a while back . Received over $400 mill package. That was a brilliant PR move splashing that all over the news wires. They are entitled to pay him what they want, but only a real dumb ### would take all that at once in times like these.

I was watching the news today, and the fellow from "mad money" stated that the saudis are running out of oil. Then there was mention of China, they for some reason, have just seemed to discover the car,and are purchasing them at record #s now they are requiring more oil than ever before. They say that we require the most oil in the country, with China 2cnd and quickly moving up with all of there vehicles now.The sad part about all of this is the cars they are purchasing are sure not American, also they are saying that the cost of fuel does not seem to phase them, could it be because all of the industry has moved over there, they have all of the work to afford the gas cost. Really makes me mad!!!!!!!!:biggrin_25516::biggrin_25510:

The Chinese government subsidizes the cost of fuel.
