All you need is your prescription and about 30 bucks to get a simple pair from Zenni Optical online. You can afford that. Really, I know broke, broke is an old acquaintance of mine and even broke you can scrape up $30 if you have to.

Especially if your current glasses are in obvious repair (Superglued). The person interviewing you is staring at that repair and worrying that you are in too desperate a condition to be trusted with responsibility for his company's equipment. It ain't fair, but it is real.

 

If you think anyone can scrape together thirty bucks then you most certainly have never been broke. I remember a time in my life when thirty bucks on something like glasses would have meant not eating for three weeks to a month to save up for it.

 

While I agree with you, all it takes is citting that internet bill he obviously has for a month. If he smokes that's an easy way. Or take the car back and get a cheaper one. Or take back that couch to rent a center.
I've lived in poverty myself, and while to some $30 is a lot, the vast bulk of people that would claim that are simply poor at money management. They spend 4x on a rent a center item instead of saving for it. They smoke. The lease a car. They give the cable company $200 every month. Etc.

 

The vast majority, sure. For some people though, that really isn't an option.

 

$30 is what it is today. Not what it was 20 years ago. Or, even, ten years ago. Thirty-five years ago I was being paid $3.35 an hour. I have eaten in soup kitchens. I have lived on $120 a month. If you think you can't #### money when it is the only way forward, well, YOU haven't been poor.

That ###### in the corner over there can figure out how to get the money together for a bottle or a fix, but you can't imagine a way to get $30 together for a pair of glasses to get a paying job? What the hell? Are you really serious? Bottle deposits, day labor, selling your couch, begging it off your parents, girl or high school guidance counselor. It can be done. But only if you can actually comprehend doing it.

I suppose you can roll over and die. I suppose you can become a ward of the state: Jump on the welfare wagon and give up all option and hope of getting off of it. Don't give me any nonsense about how welfare can lead you out of poverty. It is designed to keep you right where your betters want you... Dependent on them and voting for them.

 

Maybe that’s why swift drivers cant back up. They dont have backup glasses.

I have often wondered. Driver shortage or just cheaper to ship?

 

It is cheaper to ship via rail, but takes about twice as long. So that's a consideration
