I had my lazy eye corrected with surgery earlier this year. I am 46 years old and had dealt with double vision for most of my life. I now have single vision. I wish I had this corrected years ago.

As long as you can get corrective lenses , and you have at least 20/40 in each eye you'll be fine.

You need a minimum of (I believe) 20/30 in each eye.

I am stupid enough to continue working in an industry where people are regulated out of work because one eye might be 80% open but is still completely functional ... It must be a miracle he has made it this far in life without that pesky lazy eye causing some horrible accident thus far ...

If his eye is completely functional he will pass. What are we talking about here?

Lazy eye is a brain problem not an eye problem. If not corrected by age 3 the stronger eye becomes the dominate eye. I can see the E on the chart uncorrected in my left eye. My peripheral vision is perfect in both eyes and depth perception is spot on. I been driving since I was 14, I haven't had a ticket since 1998. No accidents that were my fault. I fudged my way to get my Class A in 2009. I been off the road a year, I'm in the process of going back out.

    Good luck driver!

Min. eye sight needed to pass the DOT exam is 20/40 in each eye as I just found out.

I am seeing a specialist for Macular Edema http://www.geteyesmart.org/eyesmart/diseases/macular-edema.cfm gone thru 2 of 3 needles in the eye.
After 1 needle I went from 20/200 to 20/50. I have gotten my 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] needle and go for my DOT re-test this coming Friday so fingers crossed I will pass but if not I am also getting the DOT waver papers filled out so I can send them in to Washington DC.
So even if you don’t have 20/40 vision you can still get the waiver to get your DOT med card.

Oh and for the ones thinking they have beaten the test who are you fooling when you put ALL of us in danger when you drive your truck.

Yeah, maybe they should have gotten the DOT waver card you mentioned so that they can legally drive blind.

You don't have to pass the eye test anymore.

    Most signs are in braille.
